PARIS - Any suggestions for an inexpensive hotel or hostel for 2 girls in January?

We are 21 and going for 4 nights at the beginning of January. We want to be somewhat centrally located. Safety and cleanliness is most important. Thanks for any suggestions

Hello, A good first step in researching hostels is to know where the hostels are located, I use Twizi.com Paris page for their map (it shows where all the hostels are in comparisions to the monuments). Safe and clean? You are in luck, the Paris hostels will surprize you with how well maintained they are over all. I like the Woodstaock hostel in Montmartre, but even though Montmartre is cool and famous and all that, it is a little out of the way.
You wanted "Central", A great place that is located right in the middle of Paris is the Hotel de Vallee. Since you are traveling together, you can share a room and it is about 32 dollars anight each. As far as central dorms go there is the old standby.. Mary's hostel. Mary's hostel/ hotel has llong been a place to stay for budget travelers, they have dorms and privates in Bastille area which is where you will find most of Paris's budget places to stay.
Now I should mention, the places I have mentioned so far are "quiet" or "mellow" hostels, they are not the places to go to party and drink and meet people in the traditional "hostel" style.
If you are looking for young, popular hostels with a more festive atmosphere, you should try Aloha hostel, which is really a no brainer for the traveller who is new to Paris and seeking cheap dorms, it is a fun and active place with beds (5, 6, and 8 dorms) for 30 bucks during the summer. (30 dollars is a good price for dorms in Paris during peak travel times).
Happy Travels!

Hotel Keppler is on a quiet rue, walking distance from Eiffel Tower and Louvre. It is inexpensive and modestly appointed. Bon Voyage

Yes you have Hotel Berta
1 r Darcet 75017 PARIS
33 -1-45 22 45 96

or HĂ´tel Darcet
4 r Darcet 75017 PARIS
33 1 42 93 26 76

or Hotel Eldorado, 18 rue des Dames 33 1 43 87 05 47, a bit more expensive but really charming.

You alsohave "hôtels Formule 1", quite cheap (14° euros/night) but not inside Paris

I leave nearby so I know them well. Have a nice trip in Paris

Bushit

hostels are a very good choice in Europe, you do know it is going to be VERY cold at that time?

Have fun, but please be very careful, spent a fair bit of time there and it can be a little dangerous for females period

I suggest you hotel Ascot Opera-rue Monsigny no.2. It's a small one, in a quiet area, but very well located, just in the center of Paris, few minutes to walk to the Louvre, Garnier opera, Place de la Concorde. You can e-mail them and reserve from now. Bon voyage!

I always suggest my favorite hotel, the Hotel St. Andre Des Artes at 66 rue St. Andre des Artes in the 6th arr. Metro stop is Odeon. Its 85 euros for a double with ensuite toilet and shower. Breakfast included.

I've been staying at this place for over 30 years and the location is great. Its a short walk to Notre Dame, the Louvre, the Cluny, and the Luxembourg Gardens. Right across the street is the Mazet where Jim Morrison had his last drink. There's a street market half a block away and the area is filled with cafes, restaurants and clubs.

Its old and funky but also clean and very safe. while the building dates from 1601 the bathrooms are modern eurostyle.

They are VERY popular and very small (only 35 rooms) so e-mail for a reservation (hsaintand@wanadoo.fr). You can write in English as Frederick, the day manager deals with the e-mail and he speaks English fairly well.

Well, it sort of depends on what you mean by "inexpensive..." but at that time of year, you're going to find a LOT of good options, since January isn't really the high season for Paris.

One place that I've stayed at twice (and will again on subsequent trips to Paris) is the Hotel Losserand Montparnasse, at 76 rue Raymond Losserand. It's a really nice, clean and charming place right in the middle of the Montparnasse neighborhood, which is on the Left Bank, extremely close to St. Germain des Pres and the Latin Quarter, but is actually close to pretty much everything as it's really centrally located. There's a Metro stop just a block away, so you can easily get to the subway to do your exploring. Montparnasse is great - - it's a vibrant area but it's really Parisian and the street that the hotel is on has a lot of cool things, including a wonderful pastry and candy store across the street, and a famous restaurant a few blocks away called Monsieur Lapin, which (given the name) specializes in rabbit dishes.

Prices vary so wildly that it's bizarre, but check your normal on-line booking agencies (like Travelocity or Orbitz or others that specialize in Paris) to compare. With how poorly the US Dollar is shoring up against most other currencies, you'll get a slight dose of "sticker shock" when you convert prices from Euros, but that's how it is...

Again, you'll find a lot of great places, but the Hotel Losserand Montparnasse has done really well by us, and we don't generally even try to stay anywhere else. Safe, clean, great location, and reasonable rates.

Have a GREAT time! Paris is one of the most wonderful cities in the world!
