All of them. France is smoke-free in public places - just like here. |

A very nice (and smoke free) restaurant is Le Coupe Chou in the 5th arrondissement.

You may also like Bistro Chez Pierro in the 4th which is 100% sans tabac (100% smoke free).

The law has been effective since February of this year for most public places but in restaurants you are right, the law will only be effective on 1/1/2008. In the meantime, restaurants by law already have some restrictions: there must be a smoke-free area in each restaurant (unfortunately, such areas are often in the least attractive parts of the restaurant) or if the room is too small for that, they must have a smoke extractor.
The best thing is to ask first thing when you walk in the place: "non fumeur". In bars, it will be VERY difficult to be in a smoke- free environment. |

France is not the smoke free country that people think. For the moment restaurants still have the opinion to have a non-smoking and smoking. Bars and discos are all smoking, but this will be illegal from the first of January 2008. They didn't want to tramatise people and go cold turkey all at once, but it is illegal in public buildings and companies. |

Personally I enjoy this place "Au dos de la baleine" (in the heart of Le Marais) |

Near the Luxembourg Gardens, I like Le Vagenende on Rue de Rennes. It's a quintessential Parisian brasserie, and it's non-smoking, even at the bar. I've been going there for years and not once have I been disappointed. Their Iles Flotantes is the best in Paris!
There are plenty of restaurants near the Marais, but my choice is to wander about with a picnic basket. Stop in patisseries and boulangeries that catch your eye, load your basket (don't forget the wine!) and settle in at the Place des Vosges for a nice lunch on the grass. Heaven!
Enjoy your trip!

Try eating at Ma Bourgogne in Place Vosges. If its not too cold perhaps you can eat outside under the arches in the breezeway and see the park. Very traditional place and great atmosphere. You got the answer about smoking. |
