Given that Paris has some of the most reasonably priced hotels for a major city in the Western World I wonder what you were looking at and what you require.
If you want a luxury hotel with all the amenities that go with that but want to pay $100 a night then forget it. No such room exists anywhere. Neither in Paris, London, ir New York.
But there are a lot of pleasant places filled with local color that are available.
Try the Hotel de Nesle ( http://www.hoteldenesleparis.com/ ) or the Hotel St. andre des Artes ( http://www.123france.com/en/0/hotel-saint-andre-des-arts-paris_486_en/index.html ) |

I stayed at the Hyatt Regency, there prices are lighter then most of the hotels over there. Also if you book online you may get a better room rate. http://paris.nyctourist.com/paris-hotels.php. Also try Paris Marriott! Look into vacation packages, try travelzoo.com or priceline.com. Also try the Saint-James & Albany hotel, they have rooms, I believe there for under $200.00 a night, booking.com has a ton of places to pick from when it comes to hotels.
When you are there, don't forget to see the Eiffel Tower, and there are some great museum tours. There are so many wonderful restaurants, you'll have no problem finding wonderful food and great wine. However don't forget to ask around for the Cheese and Wine Tasting Lunches that so many places offer.
Hope I've helped you. |

I like the Hotel Madison at 143 Boulevard St. Germain. I stumbled across it years ago on the recommendation of Paul Matisse, grandson of the painter Henri Matisse. "If it's good enough for the Mattisses, it's good enough for me," I thought . . . and was I ever right: The place is charmingly small, with every room decorated in a different theme. It has a very Parisian feel, and the staff are always charming and gracious . . . even if you don't speak a word of French! Best of all is the location: It's in the heart of the Sixth Arrondissement, directly across from the Eglise St. Germain and fabled Les Deux Maggots and Cafe de Flore. It's Paris at its very best.
Enjoy your trip!

Hotels in Paris are VERY expensive, but they're cheaper during the winter.
Why don't you try to find a hotel outside Paris? Nearby cities are great, you can find a hotel that will cost you much less, and it's easy to go to downtown Paris with the RER (the suburban metropolitan, linking Paris to nearby cities).
Anyway Paris is so great during the New Year. |

The Hotel Regina was featured on Samantha Brown's show on the Travel Channel. If you go during the low season (New Year's is in the low season) you can get rooms at the Hotel Regina for *very* cheap, and even the lower end rooms have a view of the Eiffel Tower! It's a very elegant hotel, but as Samantha pointed out, it isn't so elegant that everyone is snooty. Very friendly, classic, beautiful place. |

I stayed at the Hotel Magendie for two weeks. It is a tourist class hotel, but comfortable enough. You won't spend that much time in the room anyway, right?
Hotel des Gobelins looks nice online, and is reasonably priced. I haven't been there, so I can't vouch for how well what is published on expedia matches reality.
Appart Valley Hotel offers kitchenette rooms for a very reasonable price. The kitchen allows you to economize on meals, too. I usually eat a nice lunch out and prepare my own dinner.
There are a multitude of vacation apartment rental websites. Just Google paris vacation rental to get a huge list.
I was in Paris for new years 2006/2007 and wish I were going back this year. Have fun! |
