Places to go in Paris?

I will soon be going to Paris with some of my classmates. It is not an ordinary trip - we want to learn and experience the French living, but also want to have fun and see a lot of sights and do what regular Frenchies would do. If you have any recommendations or know any must see/be there places, please tell me. The places can vary from night clubs to cafes, or shopping areas to beautiful parks. Anything will do. Because on this trip, we choose where we want to go and I would like some suggestions. Please tell me as much as you know about the place you are posting. (like the address, what type of place is it...like cafe, club...and a short description if you may) Thank you for taking your time to read this long description, I just would like to know hot spots in Paris so I can have an idea of where I want to go. Thanks so much. :]

There are the obvious sights like Sacre Cour, Notre Dame, Versailles, Eiffel Tower, etc, which other people have already mentioned.

If you're looking for something a little off the beaten track, when I was there last my family and I did the Paris Sewer Tour which was actually pretty interesting; but my favourite thing we did was the Paris Catacombs. It's miles and miles of bones underground that were put there after the cemetaries were overflowing. It's spooky but amazing! I highly highly recommend it.
Another thing I loved was the boat tour on the Seine; there are lots of different ones, but it gives you a different look at the city and it's quite relaxing.
If the students like Monet's paintings, I recommend L'Orangerie, but otherwise the Louvre is tres spectaculaire.
If you want to shop, obviously there are a lot of choices but La Fayette is a beautiful department store 6 blocks long.
Other than that, the best advice I can give is while you should hit up the main sights (you can't go to Paris without seeing the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame), do things off the beaten track as well, like buy paninis from sidewalk vendors and take a picnic of baguettes and cheese to a park and sit and watch the Parisian life. There is so much more to Paris than the touristy parts!

There are hundreds of typical tourists sights like the Eiffel tower and the Louvre. Which ones you choose to see will depend on your interests and the full list would fill a book. Indeed, that's why there are so many guide books to Paris. So just pick one and take the time to read it. Not as fast as just asking on the internet but the results will be much better since only you know how much time you really want to spend wandering through the Louvre looking at great art or how many old churches you really want to see.

However, I do have some suggestions as to non-sightseeing activities.

If you're going to be in Paris when the weather is nice then head for the Jardin du Luxembourg in the Latin Quarter. There's always a lot of people, especially young people, hanging out there. It's a place you might be able to strike up an acquaintance with some Parisians your own age in a safe and nonthreatening environment.

For shopping go to the Flea market at Saint Ouen. Just take the Metro to the Porte du Clingnacourt stop any friday thru monday throughfollow the crowds. There's everything from very expensive antiques to cheap souvenirs and clothing.

For some clubbing there are a lot of places and exactly which to try is hard to say without knowing you. Some places that come to mind are

La Loci (http://www.laloco.com/#Home)
Georges Café at 4, rue de la Huchette ( http://www.paris-zoom.com/video/257/Georges-Cafe.html)
the Next Club at 17 rue Tiquetonne (http://www.lenext.com/)
Showcase at the Pont Alexandre III (http://www.showcase.fr/)

The French are lovely people and take pride in their culture. No one I met there was rude to me. Though I can imagine some people that experience a bad French attitude bring it upon themselves. You would be cranky too if you were surrounded by loud, obnoxious American tourists all day! The important thing to remember is that you should just be friendly, respectful and polite. Also it does not hurt to try to speaking in French. Most people speak English, but seem to really appreciate your efforts to assimilate to their country.

Some activities to consider are:
Eiffel Tower
Champs Elysees
Arc de Triomphe
Notre Dame Cathedral (tower tour is cool if you want a nice view of the city and a chance to take pictures near some gargoyles)
Sacre Coeur / Montmarte
Conciergerie / Sant Chapelle
Musee d' Louvre
Musee d' Orsay
Versailles

Don't pass up the bakeries and pastry shops. The bread and sweets are delicious. I was obsessed with the pistachio macroons by the time I left! People watching with a glass of wine mid-day on the patio of a cafe is also a nice way to enjoy the city.

THE IFEL TOWER IS A LOVELY PLACE.

Hey, i'm a parisian student and if you want to experience the cities like actual french students, you should hang out in the "Quartier Latin" (5th district). Here is where the most prestigious high schools and universities are located, such as Henri IV and La Sorbonne.
Lots of students love this neighbourhood because it's lively & nice!
For shoping, you should go to Saint-Germain-des-Prés (in the 6th disctict), lots of famous brands such as Vuitton & Dior have stores over there.. but, as it is very expensive, you can also shop in the "Boulevard Saint Michel" (it's the street crossing all the Quartier Latin!), here you can find more affordable stores (Naf Naf, Promod, etc).

And at night, lots of students hang out on "Les Quais" (the famous docksides), between Saint-Germain-des-Prés and Notre-Dame de Paris: we gather there in the evening with some picnic and just talk all night near the Seine river and the gorgeous landscape!! that's just awesome :)
Lots of people also gather in front of Notre Dame de Paris, also in the little streets of "La Huchette" next to 'Saint Michel's place' (5th district, at the end of the Boulevard Saint-Michel, in front of the scene). Here there is a fountain where everybody meets in the Quartier Latin!

I hope that my few advices will help you enjoy the city! (and don't worry, french people are neither arrogant nor mean, those are just stereotypes!!)

if you want more informations or tips on cafes, places and stuff to do, just let me know!

I agree with the last answer you received. All the the places recommended are really great.
Just sitting in a cafe and watching the city as it comes to life early in the morning is beautiful.

There so so many things to see and do,hope you have a wonderful time

dont listen to that second answer...i hate the stereotype of french people being rude....they are just like us...some are snobby, as we are too, and some are nice, they are regular people. they are not all rude, just try to speak their language, half of them will see you are trying to speak it and tell you it's ok i can speak in english for you.

now about where to go in paris...TOP 5 you must see
eiffel tower
champs elysees
versailles
seine river cruise
sacre coeur

Don't go the people are rude there. was there a year ago and there's a lot better places to go in europe. We actually got kicked out of a cab because we didn't speak french. Very few people were actually nice but good luck.
