Planning my first trip to Paris, Any ideas of what to do besides museums and Moulin rouge?

I agree with the poster who said you need to see a museum while in Paris. The Louvre and Musee d'Orsay are top-notch museums....highly recommend visiting those places. The Rodin Museum is quite nice as well, less crowded.

Get a museum pass (2-, 4- or 6-day passes)...they allow you to skip to the front of the line at most museums and you have unlimited entry to the included museums. You get into a separate line at the Musee d'Orsay; you get to go before the long line of tourists at Sainte-Chapelle; you don't get to skip to the head of the line to go up to the bell towers at Notre-Dame, but you don't have to pay the 5 Euros to get in. It's crucial at Versailles.

You can start your visit to Paris by taking an introductory tour by bus of Paris...Paris Vision and Cityrama (both are located on Rue de Rivoli...great souvenir shops across from the Louvre and Tuileries Garden) offer many excursions in and around Paris.

If you're so inclined, you can attend mass at Notre-Dame Cathedral...it's beautiful.

Take a bateaux-mouche ride along the Seine...they offer both daytime and nighttime tours...different perspective of Paris.

You can attend a performance (ballet or chamber music, for example) at the Opera Garnier...the box seats aren't that much more expensive at some performances.

You could always check out the flea market at Clignancourt. You can find some good deals. The first part is mostly a touristy sort of thing. If you venture deeper into the flea market, you can find some great deals.

Pack up a picnic lunch and dine in the shade of the Eiffel Tower.

Shops are on rue St Onore, Lafayette (near Opera Garnier), Bon Marche (near Saint Germain), on Saint Germain (a boulevard).
Clubs: L'Etoile on Champs D'Elysee, La Cabare near Louvre. Many other great clubs but they won't let you in, unless you are very pretty or rich. Or on invitation.
Bar in a Pershing hall.
Do not shop on Chams D'Elysee, it's bad. Go to the places above.
Take a bauteuax - boats on Seine, daytime for sightseeing, and you can have dinner on one of them, they are fab!
Tour d'Effel is ok, but there is a long line, and tremendously cold in winter!

take a boat ride down the Seine at night, visit the latin quarter for great food, take a guided tour of the castles in the countryside and check out versaille. And don't miss la defense! And check out montmarte for local art and a beautiful view of the city.

If this is your first trip to Paris.. It's almost crazy to NOT see a museum. Try to go to the Louvre. It's beautiful and a great place to take pictures.. and this is even before you go in !
Depending on how many days you have in Paris. I would suggest a visit to see Louis XIV's castle in Versailles (is a day trip) , take a cruise on the Seine at night.. and you must see the Eiffel tower during the day and also at night ! Visit Monmartre by le Sacre coeur to see the local artists and art work.
Food and shopping is everywhere.. This never a dull moment.. take a walk, take a subway ride and you are bound to find something exciting.. beware of the pick pockets.. they are experts ! ..

The Moulin Rouge, Crazy Horse and Pigale joints are all tourist traps full of Japanese tour groups. Try a neighborhood bistro for more reasonable prices and real French food. Deli sections in some supermarkets are a lot of fun too. Take a citywide bus tour and then decide what you really want to see.

You must take a river cruise and visit the Latin quarter and the Laduree Cafe. A walk through the Tuileries Gardens. Just go down one of the side streets or a local neighborhood and just stroll around. You must see the windmills in Monmatre and Monmatre neighborhood and go to Un Sacre Coeur.

see movies, plays, effiel tower. some public pool are really nice, like they have water slides and everything

the champs elysees is incredibly busy due to stores....but personally....if you visit it at night....its just incredible...almost prettier than tour effiel...
