Proposing in Paris, France?

My girlfriend and I have been together for about a year now and were very serious. We are going to Paris, France December 5 - January 7 and I want to propose to her. I know it will be rainy an cold, but for the ladies, do you think it would still be romantic. Also, I am planning on proposing to her on top the Eiffel Tower. Is that a good idea?

Awww so sweet. I think it's wonderfully romantic ! I wish you luck. Also try taking her out for dinner before, something fancy. You know, to get her in the mood. You are such a sweetheart. Oh and don't go overboard with gifts ! Flowers are nice but no need for much else, she should say yes for you not you money! Remember, she will be getting a ring. :)

It's very cliché to propose on, around, or in front of the Eiffel tower - If you are really set on making this your setting, a good idea might be to plan for a evening proposal , at night every hour on the hour the Eiffel tower lights up for 10 mins - the best view point is at Trocadero, just across the Seine from the Tower.
Otherwise my personal favorite would be in the gardens of Versailles - huge gardens with a lake you can rent a canoe on, absolutely gorgeous setting. The whole place just reeks of old time royalty and wealth. There will be less tourists wintertime - it might even be snowing!! Rent the film Marie Antoinette with Kirsten Dunst - the film was shot at Versailles. Bonne chance!!

Another suggestion would be to take her to dinner at the Jules Vern restaurant in the Eiffel Tower and propose there. At least you'd be warm.

Aww! on top the he Eiffel tower is a little cheesy though, I think. But some girls like that.
I think a meal at a really nice, romantic restaurant would be better.
Soo romantic going to Paris, although again a little cheesy but I would love it....

I'm crazy about the Eiffel Tower so my answer is going to be biased!

This is a wonderful idea and obviously one which you have favoured.
Be prepared for the cold and windy weather but I look at this way, your girlfriend will ascend La Tour Eiffel a single lady and descend as part of an engaged and much in love couple!

May I perhaps reiterate what some previous answerer's have said... The Restaurant would be a lovely idea and you can escape the long queues to by use of the restaurant lift. Ask beforehand for the staff to hide a bunch of flowers etc for you and just before one of the hours when the Tower lights up .. pop the question!!

The restaurant is not cheap but this is your proposal and whether others see the location as a cliche please remember this is the city of love and romance and good food... Go for it!

By the way .. A trip to The Palace of Versailles the next day would be wonderful and you could treat your new partner in life like a queen!!

Let us know how it all goes.... Best Wishes

The top of the Eiffel Tower is about as romantic as a bus stop. Go, visit, take photos, and leave once it starts to get dark From there, walk towards the river and cross the Pont d'léna. There's a park there called Palais de Chaillot with fountains and places to sit and look down on the tower which is a million times more romantic than actually being on the tower. Propose there, then head for dinner in one of the nice restaurants in the Trocadéro area:

Edit_sorry, I didn't mean to repeat the previous answerer - the idea must be a good one!

I think a better place for a proposal would be in the Rodin museum, in front of "The Kiss". Make sure to go early in the morning so that the museum isn't terribly crowded.

Another good place would be in one of the gardens. They won't be as beautiful as they were last month when I was there, so they would be stark but still nice. My favorite is Palais Royal, but Jardin du Luxembourg and Jardin des Plantes are also pretty.

In front of or inside Notre Dame or Sainte Chappelle would also be very cool. If you can afford it, take her out for a fancy dinner - the kind of place where you have to dress up a little - and propose to her at dinner.

If you think that she's the kind of person who would love to be the center of attention in front of a huge crowd of strangers, then by all means propose at the Eiffel Tower. It's very much a cliche, but if you guys like that kind of thing, then go for it. I seriously wouldn't do it on top of the tower, though. There's not much room up there, and it will be cold and windy, which is not how a woman wants to remember that special moment. Instead, go by there in the evening, when the tower is lit up and twinkling, and propose in front of it.

the efiel tower is such a tourist site..im going to say no, especially as the wind will probably throw her off the top before you get on your knee
take her to the riveria and do it in some posh cafe or on a canoe
