Public Transportation in Paris: From The Montmartre area to the Palace of Versailles?
First time in Paris:
I wanted to know what the best method of (public) transportation from the Montmarte area to the Palace of Versailles.
Any information about what trains/RER/Buses I need to catch would be appareciated.
Also... the Hours of Operation at the Palace would be nice too. When does it open and close.
The trip will take about 50 minutes and costs 2.90 € each way.
On the way back, look for the opposite directions on the map: RER C to Paris + RER B to CDG airport/Mitry-Claye: http://www.ratp.info/orienter/cv/cv_en/carteparis.php
RER B is the thick blue line running north-south and RER C is the thick yellow line running along the river. They connect just south of the river, outside Notre Dame Cathedral.
Here is the chateau's official website: http://www.chateauversailles.fr/en/570_Opening_times_and_prices.php?idT=2

I can tell you that EVERYONE, and I mean everyone in Paris was wonderful with directions. Everyone was gracious and so kind. Our concierge showed us how to navigate the transportation system. The Metro was much easier than the busses. It's also something to see and experience on it's own. It was a Marvel. We never made it out to Versailles because of rain, so I have no info for you on that, sorry.
It was my 1st time there as well. We spent 10 days and used the metro daily. It was not difficult at all. Where ever you stay they will be very helpful as far as giving you information, or telly you where you can obtain information. I read a ton on Foders.com before I went, I think it really helped.
It was absolutley a trip of a life time..hope it is for you too.
