Amelie.!!!!

The Diving Bell and the Butterfly. The first 5 minutes is very rough but stick with it - its a very intriguing movie about a man with "locked-in" syndrome, based on real life.

Amelie. It's really popular with both audiences and critics. Definitely a must-watch French movie!

It's difficult to choose for you. I don't know what kind of movies you like...
Some recent very good movies (in my opinion) :

"De battre mon coeur s'est arrĂȘtĂ©" (Jacques Audiard, 2005).
"L'ennemi intime" (Florent Emilio Siri, 2007).
"Le couperet" (Costa-Gavras, 2004).
"La science des rĂȘves" (Michel Gondry, 2005).
"Persepolis" (Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud, 2007).

Jeux interdits

Hotel du Nord

Amélie Poulain

La belle et la bĂȘte

Les disparus de Saint Agil

Indochine

La maßtresse du lieutenant français

'Taxi' is really cool in french. Ive seen it in both french and english and the french version was much better. It's really funny.

Enjoy.

Sofia Coppola's "Marie Antoinette". The DVD has an English version with French subtitled option, and also a French version with English subtitles. While the story itself may not interest you, the conversations are easy to follow in subtitle mode and a good learning tool.

Edit-"Marie Antoinette was made is France. Sofia Coppola had special permission to film inside Versailles.

In my French lesson we watched huit femmes. It was rather a strange film but the French was good and I could pick up a lot. It really helped with vocab and my accent.
