Should I go to the top of the Eiffel Tower?

I think it's worth it but you need to know what to expect. The lines are long. First there's a line to get in (try the north pillar -the line usually seems to be shorter there for some reason). Then you get herded into the elevator like a bunch of cattle. I'm a tiny bit claustrophobic when I have strangers' body parts touching me so I have to concentrate on breathing deeply and relaxing. Inevitably, some *tourist* has BO. The elevator is glass so you can see out of it. That may freak you out.

At the second level, everyone has to get off and if you're going to the top (12 euros vs. 7.80 for the second level), you have to wait in another line and go into another elevator which is also crammed full, hot & made of glass. The view may freak you out and if so, try to get in the middle of the crowd instead of being by the edge of the elevator.

At the top, it's still really crowded and very windy but like someone said, it's all fenced in so you're safe. To me, it's a "must do." I didn't mean to scare you with any of the details but for me, the more prepared I am, the better I can deal with it.

Since you're not paying anyhow, you can always go to the second level (which has restaurants & shops & a museum) and then stay there if you don't want to go all the way to the top. Also, if it's a really windy day the top will be closed to everyone anyhow. That happened on one of my student trips to Paris and they were so bummed!

My best friend and I went a few years ago. She was terrified of heights but her thought was the same - once in a lifetime trip.

It's very worth it. It's partially enclosed and if you're not comfortable walking to the edge then you don't have to - but absolutely try.

It's definitely worth it. I went to Paris last summer and was nervous too but it's something you'll never forget.
So line ups are long - I would suggest you go first thing in the am. It opened at 9 when we were there so we got there at 8:30 and were amongst the first in line. We got up on the first elevator. By the time we were own, the crowds were hundreds deep.

OMG you must do it, it's beautiful. I live in France & I've visited the place before, it's gorgeous up there.

oh yeah. i went to the top three times when i was eight, but then again i also love heights. my mom came with me the first time but didn't go back after that (she's terrified of heights)
i definitely recommend it; just take a friend who will hold your hand and keep you calm.
but again, i really don't know what it's like to be afraid of heights so if you think it's really going to get to you use your judgement.

I lived in Paris. But I have never been up the tower. When friends visit, I send them up there by themselves. I don't think I missed anything. I just don't like touristy places. I guess I take it for granted the tower will always be there and I still go to Paris every year.
Look at it this way, if you like Paris, you'll be back, so there's no need to force yourself up there this time. If you don't like Paris, seeing it from high above won't change your mind.

If you're really fearful of heights then don't go up.

Its a nice view but the view from the plaza in front of Sacre Coeur is at least as good and doesn't involve standing at the top of a tall structure and should therefore produce less anxiety for you.

Of course. It will be a long wait, but how often are you in Paris?

I've been up there many times (family in France). Anyone can handle it and it offers a unique view of Paris since there are so few skyscrapers.

Completely worth it to go, just realize that you're completely safe.

If you can handle elevators, it's totally worth it. There's a huge cage over the side so you can't hang off of it or anything. Like you said - it's once in a lifetime and the view is amazing. I hate elevators (and I'm not a fan of heights) but I would have really regretted if if I didn't go up.

I'm jealous - Paris is awesome!

my friend has been there and they said it wasnt scary but it was boring!!!! hopes that helps
