You cannot move to the South of France and live unless you are a French citizen. You are an alien in France just as the aliens from Mexico are illegal in the US; so other aliens are illegal in France.
The only way around this would be for you to marry a French citizen and get their equivalent of a green card.
Also, the amount of money you make per month will not support you in France. Things are very expensive in France and the South of France is becoming particularly expensive.
What would you do for medical care? The French medical system will not support you.
People forget that WE are the aliens in other countries and we are not welcomed to live in other places. |

if you live smart, yeah, but you have to have very very specific plans.
rural quebec or costa rica might be better for you |

Instead you should move to Mexico or Belize..
1700 usa dollars is not much in the South of France. |

I do not think it would be a good idea to move to the South of France. I lived there and I am French. People are nice with you as they want to get your money (tourism). When out of season, they will not be nice when they find out you don't spend money. Be aware of that. Go in vacation it's OK but I would not recommend to live there. Find out first.
Mes amitiés. Salut. |

Hi
Worth a trip to the West Med France area of Languedoc.
It is cheaper than Nice, and a better climate with 300+ sunny days per year.

i think that you should check the cost of living in the area you want to move to, as the cost of living varies greatly from the cote azure to areas like marseilles. |

I live in France and there is nothing to stop you applying for a residents visa, contact your nearest French Consulate or Embassy. However, you wil not have a hope in hell in living in the South of France on 1700 dollars a month, sorry. Rent in Nice would be more than that and then you still have to live! There are some areas where you may stand a chance, but I don't hold out much hope for you. Also remember that if your income is in dollars you are very susceptible to the changing rate of exchange which means one month you have enough and then the next you don't. Why don't you check out some of the France forums on the web and chat with people who live there to get more details. |
