The south!!! The basque country is beautiful (Biaritz, Bayonne).
If you like good food, I recommend following a map of "Relais et Chateaux" (not always expensive, especially in the south)
Please, you don't have to go eat escargots and frogs! This is not typical french food and it's disgusting... |

It's quite far from Paris, but this summer we went to the Massif Centrale and Perignon (sp). We saw some stone-age caves (Lascaux II-which isn't really stone-age--and Fonts de Gaume were very cool). Great food too! |

Aix en Provence is a good choice. Its an ancient city founded in 122 BC which is a University town these days. It has about 300 sunny days a year and the weather tends to be mild.
You can get there easily by train from Paris. |

- The Loire valley, you can visit magnificent castles there and taste good wine
- The Alps, go and see the Mont-Blanc, Chamonix, Annecy and its lake
- Riviera : Nice, Menton, Antibes, Cannes
- Provence : Aix and Avignon |

I would recommend La Rochelle. It's a small city on the West coast. I used to live there for 3 years, it's not too small so you don't get bored. The long streets for pedestians only are beautiful and you get a mix of history and cool shopping at the same time. In the evening a terasse from one of the numerous restaurants is just the best way to enjoy the end of a long pleasant day. Not the mention the biggest European Aquarium, nice beaches and small islands easily accessible by boat from the port in downtown. |

Reims is beautiful. Reims is where all champagnes are made. A champagne must be produced in this area in order to be called champagne. You can get a tour and tasting of many champagne houses - it is so much fun. The best hotel there is the Best Western Hotel de la Paix - only about 100 euros per night. |
