Take the metro and go in any direction about 10 minutes outside of the city center, get out and walk among the people. Just listen and get a feel for the sound of the language. I'd try to go to a market and listen to people bargain or discuss prices or item quality. The French are great for that. Try to mingle with the locals (who tend to stay away from touristy areas themselves) to see how the Parisians live. Keep in mind that Parisians are not necessarily typical of the French character, just as New Yorkers are not always typical of Americans. That's why you'd want to go to different areas of the city. Have a terrific year! |

i just came back from paris and i can say that you have alot to look forward to. one must do is to go to the top of tour montparnasse, it has amazing views of the city including the eiffel tower. one cool hip hangout place to go would to go to the latin quarter at night. its the young part of paris where you can see cool things like breakdancers(theyre really good) and eat at some cool restaurants. one place that i highly reccomend that you visit is the montmartre district including sacre coueur cathedral which has marvelous panoramic views of the city.behihd sacre coeur are small streets and quaint stores which are pretty. there are so much things to do in paris. if i were to mention all the things i did id be here forever. have fun |

Don't worry now.
You gona stay a year, you will have time to figure what people do more in Paris soon enought.
A lot of party and a lot of work is the best resume but in Paris it's 1000 things to do, depend what you like, anyway you will find something.
The catacombes are nice but be carefull of the police.
Enjoy. |

One of my favorite spots any pretty everyone else who lives there is the Jurden du Tuilleries. A huge beautiful park with two large fountains, sculptures, small outside restraunts, it leads to the Louvre. I love it, I could sit for ours, drinking my coffee and enjoying the scenery.
My other favorite place was the Sacre Coure. A huge cathedral on a hilltop with a spectacular view. Another place where I like to seat and watch the day go by. |

The Catacombs were pretty cool! Not too expensive either.
On Fridays (and if your are under 26) go and check out the Louvre from 6 to 10 (or 10:30pm). Its free for the homeless and young people so it might not be too crowded compared to the first Sunday of each month when its free as well.
I was only there for about 5 days and didn't get to see everything so a year should be plently of time! |
