Dave Grohl Wanna Be!!!!

Some great WWII D-Day locations?

I know alot about WWII and I was thinking of one day visiting Normandy, France and I need to know if the bunkers on one of the beaches (Omaha, Sword, Juno, Gold, and Utah) are still there and if there are tours or some kind of special thing where you can go in the bunkers and walk on the beaches and stuff like that.

And so if there are any websites or anything you can show and/or tell me about that would be great. Also if there are any pictures or videos anyone can show me that would also be appreciated. Thanks!

P.S. If you know any other great WWII locations I can visit please tell me! I know about a lot of them but I'm sure there are a few I don't know about! Thanks!

When I was in Normandy a few years ago we got a private tour (arranged through the hotel...can't remember what company, but it was really easy and arranged on the spot) to Omaha Beach, Caen (and the great museum there...highly recommended), Pont Du Hoc (again, highly recommended), Utah beach and St Mere Eglise. We went on our own to the American cemetery and the German cemetery at La Cambe. Most of the beaches are open access from what I can remember.
There are bunkers at Pont Du Hoc (along with bomb craters...)

Bayeux is also a really nice town to visit.

Some pics on this site (I don't know who these people are, but the pictures are quite good): http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~param/photos/eu04-normandy/page-img_5735-lvl.html

The area between Calais and Boulogne has a lot of WWll sites you can visit. The website below as photos and information on the museums, bunkers and rocket bases of the Calais area. Go to the France index and you will see a section on WWll museums

I recently went to Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery.
There are a couple of monuments and bunkers that you can go inside on Omaha Beach...other than that it's just a regular beach...you can walk on it, etc. There are tours that go there.

the American Cemetery is amazing; it's pretty close to Omaha Beach.

I don't think there is a British or Canadian cemetery. I read that they buried soldiers where they fell. I think that you can visit all the other beaches as well.
