There are plenty of French songs that brings me back to France, and these are my favourites:

1) La vie en rose by Edith Piaf (a real classic that everyone recognises immediately)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxByDgpLmss

2) J'ai deux amours by Madeleine Peyroux (this song is a bit more Paris-specific)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ciGz2zgR3nE

3) Boum by Charles Trénet (this is one song that always makes me laugh)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p0KWyWwVp0E

4) Hymne Ă  l'amour by Edith Piaf (I also like the cover version by Josh Groban)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBJwCwmEGfE

5) Y'a d'la joie by Charles Trénet and Smain (another cheerful, happy tune)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FY_JCihitzs

6) Ces petits riens by Stacey Kent (a Serge Gainsbourg original, this is a great cover)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaOaGZ9MRik

As you can probably see, the songs that evoke France tend to be quite old, classic tunes, from what most people would categorise as the "grand cafes tune". Quite often, you can't go wrong by listening to Edith Piaf or Charles Trénet - they're quite the legends!

The last link above is the most contemporary song among those on this list, which I love but perhaps for many it's just going to be another French song and that's it.

A love song to Paris and it's old jewel of Montmartre...
