The 4th, 5th or 6th arrondissements are the best for a tourist. |

get a hotel near the main train station and all the main attractions are only a few stops away by way of the metro |

Quartier Latin, St. Germain or le Marais, would be my choices. Quartier Latin is a pretty vivacious student quarter. Lots of little bar/restaurants, and tiny shops, etc. |

I like the area near Chatelet. It's nearly right in the center of the city, so you can walk to Notre Dame & Ste. Chappelle, the Louvre & the Pompidou, and the Marais and the Latin Quarter. I even walked all the way to and from the Arc de Triumph (very long walk). |

www.hotelresidencedupalais.com It's right next to Luxembourg Gardens, and about 10 minutes walk from Notre Dame, 20-30 minutes from the Louvre and a lot of the other attractions. There are lots of bus stops and things nearby, buses are much faster than walking. It's also pretty cheap (53 euros a night for a double bed with shower in the room and balcony), clean, and the owner speaks very good English. Check it out! |
