In Europe there is a VAT (value added tax) which is like a sales tax (although technically different). In France this amounts to 19.6% on most purchases. |

Hi!
In France the taxes are already included in the price. So if you want to buy a new shirt for example the price indicated on the label is the price with taxes included... No need to calculate how much it will finally cost. Nobody can charge you for more than what is written on the label, menu,...
On average taxes are 19.6% of the price. However for what we call "needed goods" it is only 5%. For example most of foods will be charged at 5% while clothes, chocolate candies... will be charged at 19.6% b/c you can survive without these goods. But as i said you'll never have a bad surprise at the cashier. The label, ticket or menu gives you the final price.
In most restaurants tips is also included in the final price. But it is common to leave on the table b/w 2 Euros and 20 Euros based on how much you consumed! |

In France, the taxes are already included in the price. It's pretty high (15-20% I think) but since it's already included, it doesn't seem like that much. Have fun in France, dude!! Take lots of pictures! :D |
