No, it really isnt that hard, but as some find out too late, they are going in season...which is now and for the next mpnth or so. During these times it can be really crowded and make the day kinda long. I think the experience is what you make of it though.
Have family or good friends along and you'll enjoy the time spent.
As far as part B....there's always lads to be seen...some fitter than others, but always 1 or 2 to look at.

It is easy and very nice - but also very crowdy - some periods of the year can make the river bit more at risk - and if weather forecasts are for thunderstorm don't go -

Otherwise some locations = beautiful

Fit lads = nice blokes ? - as ever the nicest ones are either
phaggots or already hired

Used to go to the Ardeche every summer for a month, camping, when I was younger. La Plage Fleurie.......it was good then, but a little run down last year when I visited.

Paddled my dinghy up and down it, leapt of rocks into it, shot rapids on my @r$e through it, but not canoed it.

However, from what I recall, you will have fun. Generally fairly easy, with a few challenges thrown in.

Unfortunately, I was one of the fit lads but I wont be there this year. Off to Calpe in Spain. ;o)

But have fun anyway.
