nel
Rayons X, if they had seen it written, they would have understood, but obviously the sound "eks-rez" is too far from their "reh-yon-iks"

Nel is 100% correct

Les rayons x. Not really far in pronunciation.

It seems my fellow citizen was just a bit ignorant. In english or in physics.

X-rays, as in - the black and white photos taken to see the inside of someone are called "radios"
If I were to say : Tomorrow I am going to have a x-ray of my arm taken, i would use the french word, "radio"
"Rayons X" is a word I would use when talking about those machines that check your hand luggage at the airport.
