The metro in Paris, France? |
I want to go to Paris with my boyfriend and the hotel we are looking at is quite far away from all the tourist attractions we want to see. We're planning to be there for 4 days.
Can anyone tell me the prices for the Paris metro's? How much money should we set aside for the metro? |

Ok, what you have to realise is that the attractions in Paris are spread over a wide area anyway there's no 'central' tourist area as such. The metro is easy to use and pretty cheap, you can buy a carnet (pronounced carnay) of 10 tickets for just under 12 euros which makes each journey less than 1.20. If you edit your question and tell me the hotel or at least the street I can help you more. You may find that you're not as far away from some of the sights as you think. Paris is a wonderful city for walking, and you'd be surprised how easy it is to get around on foot - there are so many wonderful sights you won't even realise how far you're walking :-) |

Actually, Paris is a very compact city and the great majority of tourist sights are in a fairly narrow band on either side of the Seine (which bisects the city into north and south halves.
How far is "quite far away". If you've booked a hotel in Montmartre on the north side of the city then its not problem. If you've booked a hotel by the airport or in a suburb then the problem grows considerably.
Please add this information and I can give you better advice.
If you're actually in the city then you can buy a book of ten tickets for 11.40 euros or 1.14 euros per metro or bus ride. |

You should get a 3 day ticket which I think costs 5.6 EUR. You can then go and come back as you want. You will want it.
As many others have said, Paris is a great city to walk in. Spring is great and not too cold. Once you have walked around the city and seen all the things you want to see hop in the metro and get home quick. |

A day pass on the metro would allow you to go back and foward as many times as you want and it costs approximatly 7-8 dollars a day, you'd need to buy one every day and remember it does not expire 24 hours after you buy it but at the end of the day.
There are other options like buying a ticket everytime you go in but if you're planning on sightseeing you won't be saving a lot of money, and since you're only there for four days the week or month pass (which are even better offerts) is not an option to you |

go to www.ratp.fr and look it up, it is the website for the public transports in paris. |

Its costs about an American dollar per trip. So that means it would be a little over a Euro.
However since your going to be there for 4 days you should get a Metro pass. Im not sure how much they are but this would be your cheapest bet. You can buy them at any Metro station where you would be purchasing your ticket.
Have fun! |

You might be better off buying a 'carnet' - say 'car-nay' at your nearest metro stop, it's basically 10 tickets in a bundle and it's good value for money. You can use it on any metro, anywhere in Paris, at any time of the day. Here's a helpful link: http://europeforvisitors.com/paris/articles/paris-metro-tickets.htm
I suggest comparing the prices and seeing which works out better for you. It may be possible to get a Metro pass that combines admission fees for the Louvre, etc.
Oh, and please go see the Musee d'Orsay while you're in Paris. The Impressionist works on display there are the originals, and the colours are so beautiful and alive, no reproduction has ever done them justice. |

There are tickets you can buy which are valid a whole day, if you're planing on using the metro a lot, if not just buy it every time you take it which is over 1€ |
