I don't understand some of these answers.
Driving in France is just the same as driving in UK but the other side of the road. Basically the same as the USA.
You say that you intend hiring a car and then ask jeff why would he drive. I do not understand this either.
I live close to a ferry port and for me to go to France I need to drive 3 miles. So jeff is right,I would also drive.
I usually go to the Vendee (around St Jean de Monts or South of this) where the beaches go on forever, they are even better than the South (Med).
To go there IS a bit of a longer drive on the other side but its not that bad and worth it as it is not as crowded as the other areas (it has not yet been discovered).
We hire a mobile home as this is more comfortable and you don't have to leave your home to shower etc.
I go to France 5 times a year and always drive, even in Paris.
I have never had a problem. |

Either the Vendee area or you could try the Med side around Carnet Plage, many sites right on beach and at that time of year the Med is like getting into a lukewarm bath, Nice. |

I would recommend venueholidays.co.uk they do the same as eurocamp but less expensive and a more personal service as its a smaller company.
As for area, Berny Riviere 1hr north of paris is a good site, and only 3 hrs drive from Calais. Or any of the sites in Brittany, from Carantec on the north coast 15 mins from Roscoff ferry port to camping atlantique nr Fouesnant on the south coast of Brittany only 2 hrs from roscoff.
Visit their website for a rundown on the type of sites and driving/travel times |

I have been to France several times, and Paris just last month. If this is your first tme, you might want to rethink this plan - especially with a small child. Camping can be fun, but you might want to have a back up plan as well. I definitely would. Driving in France can be tricky, and if you are thinking about camping and are not aware of how varying the temps can be, I would strongly suggest hat you do more research. |
