Thinking of moving to France?

How hard would it be to move my family to France? I have a minor criminal record that consists of only misdemeanors. Would this have an affect on my ability to move there? Also what all do you have to do to get this rolling.

The best option for you will be to find an American/International/some company/organization in France which would offer you a position. With an accepted offer, the French authorities will issue a permit for you and your family to live in France. You would first come with your US passport without any visa, but then will have to rent a place using your employer's letter, then having first bills for telephone and elictricity on hand, you would go to local townhall and apply for "Titre-de-Sejour" - a residency permit.
It is correct that French Embassy's website offers a lot of information. There is also a book called "Living and Working in France" which you can look up on Amazon.com.

I see from some other questions that you have asked that you are an apparently American citizen.

The answer is therefore that it would be very hard to move to France.

The French government will not permit you to remain in France for more than three months without obtaining a long term visa and they are no more eager to have foreigners without resources (that is to say money) move to their country than the US government is to have foreigners move to the USA.

Even if that were not the case the fact is that you would find it almost impossible to get a job unless youy spoke fluent French and even if you did the unemployment rate in France is almost twice that of the USA.

In short, a few misdemeanors on your record is the least of your worries.

I think your criminal record may be an issue. Depending on what country you are immigration to France from will probably determine the ease of moving to France. If you are a European national it would be easier. I also think that you may have to pass a language test, but I am not to sure.

It is difficult to move to France unless you have an EU passport. Yes, a minor criminal conviction could affect your ability to move there.
Look under the French embassy in your area and see what you can do. You can also send them an email.

Bye the way, France is a lovely country.
