I really don't like her. But not because of her origins, she's like Sarkozy in many respects and i hate him so...

I think it's just for getting points in anticipation of the parliamentary elections

Tiramisu, you are little naive... this is brilliant tactics. He's putting 1/2 the TEMPORARY government as women, and for sure is going for sympathy votes.
Sarkozy's choices are not definitive, remember that. As for French people's opinion, remember this: the baby boomers are getting older, and the country has shifted conservative. The right wing has been in government for 12 years now, and another 5 to go... and people under 25 have an unemployment rate of 21.8%. That's HUGE.
No matter what the majority thinks about that particular minister, it won't matter, because it's a temporary government made to put the left wing asleep before the elections. He's going to claim that he wants to have diversity, etc. But when the legislatives come around, and if the right wing comes into power, that discourse will evaporate into thin air.... and there will be no more compromising, and no more discussion.

Rachida Dati once said (when she thought she was off-camera) that she would like to be "Ministre de la rénovation des banlieues au Kärcher" (Minister of suburbs cleaning). It is quite surprising that she managed to get a post after getting caught saying such things.

ochervet
it looks like a good thing.

I would advise anyone to wait until after the new parliement is elected in june to cast a definite opinion.

It might just be a smoke screen to get some more sympathy votes.

I personnaly don't care. I hate Sarkozy anyway.
Why did you ask it? There are 6 others women in the government.

Hello-Paris
According to me, I don't understand why people doubt about her. She has made hard studies. She was a judge just before politic.
She was born in a little town in a difficult area in a family with 11 brothers and sisters. So I think she will be able to become a good minister of justice. Probably she will know very well all the problems in hard suburbs, probably better than another person issued from a great school.

In France, people from Socialist Parti wanted to open the gouvernment to new ministers issued from immigration.
Now that Sarkozy is doing that, they say it is not good....

Do you understand that ? Me no....

Maybe better to translate into French and post on a french site, no one on here gives a sod...

Very positive. It's been the most interesting presidential election ever and the fact that France has a young President and a Government that has ministers such as Mme Dati as well as Bernard Kouchner as the overseas minister augers well for the future, especially amongst the youngermembers of the public and from the various ethnic communities.

Mafalda est maman
it's a good thing! Sarkozy had a great idea! she's nice! and very smart...
