Just update it with the French road maps and you should be absolutely fine. We used ours in Italy and we use it regularly here in the US.

When you bought your TomTom you had the option to buy one with the maps for only the UK, or (for more money) one with the maps for all of Europe, including France. Just check on your TomTom to see whether it will accept an address in a different country. The language and other settings do not change no matter what map you're using. If you only have a UK map you can buy an upgrade - connect your TomTom to your PC and download one, or go to a store which sells them and ask for advice.

just a french map

If you find you need to buy a map of Tomtom France, take my tip and pay a bit extra for the Tomtom map of Western Europe - it contains lots of maps including the UK and the Irish Republic and is a far better bargain than buying individual maps. Also, it is seamless (i.e., you don't have to manually manage the maps by switching from one country to another), and it will be the latest version as well. You don't need to touch your language settings - the instructions in France will be spoken in English as they are in the UK now. It is also worth subscribing to the Speed Camera package (it comes applicable to all the countries whose maps are in your Tomtom) because if you are stopped for speeding in France it means a very expensive on-the-spot fine. And, Data Protection Act or not, if you are caught on a camera, DVLI at Swansea WILL give the French Authorities your details so that you can be sent a ticket. Have a nice holiday.

Hi, I have a tomtom here in Paris and use it all the time. It works great! depending on the software version you may need to update it with the French map software.

Tomtom version 6 for western europe already has the maps for all EU countries so I'm pretty sure that you already have the maps! But, check the version you have, then do a search on the tomtom site to verify. Also, you can just verify by planning a route on tomtom to Paris from UK and see if it gives you the French maps (in detail).

The interface will still be in English as this is an option on the tomtom itself. If you don't want to buy the French maps you can download them from bittorrent for free (but this is illegal).

yes the instructions will be in English if that is the language set in your preferences. Maps for France maybe loaded in your Tomtom. go online to tomtom.com and download the maps if they are not there. it may cost you 39.95GBP but would be well worth it if you are worried about getting lost.

it depends what map you have in it, if you have just the GB map, then its no good. you will need a Europe chip.
