This image comes from Great Britain, when Frenchmen mostly from Brittany came on bike to sell the onions they had cultivated in France end 19th century, beginnint 20th. Not many onion culture in England so it sold much better than in France. Some would knot the onions together in a rope and tied at least one around their neck to show what they were selling in their bags. Most tied the onions to the bike.
