Urgent help needed - Please :'( ?

I'm a 14yr old girl & i live in Australia. Ever since starting French in high-school, i have totally loved it. And what had made me totally excited was the fact that in a couple years time, when I am about 16yrs old, if I continue to be good at French, I might be able togo on a student exchange program with my school. I totally adore travelling and have been dreaming about the exchange for about two years. Ive even started my own bank account so I can help my parents pay for the exchange.
Yesterday, however, one movie crushed my dream. My whole family went to see the movie 'Taken' which is basically about a 17yr old girl named Kim who goes to France w/ her 19yr old friend. Kim's dad is a ex bodyguard & when he find out that Kim & her friend were abducted in France and then drugged and sold to prostitution, he does everything he can to save his little girl.
The film was pretty graphic and quiet frightening, & not in a supernatural way. After the movie had ended, my mum just said to me "I can't believe that I was so stupid not to see what could happen to you in France if you would go on a student exchange. I'm sorry, but your definitely not allowed to go, as this movie has opened my eyes & I don't want to see you get hurt, blah blah blah."
By that point I was crying & begging her to let me go, etc. But mum would budge and just basically said "End of discussion, your not going, and that's final"

And now I have no idea what to do, or how to convince her to let me go. Ive been planning this trip for AGES with my friends - it has been my dream to go to France with them. Mum said that one day we can all go to France as a family, but I know that thats not going to happen, and it's definetly more interesting to be going somewhere w/ your friends than with your family. Im sooooo upset, and I have no idea what to do or how to change her mind. :'(
Ive read somewhere that you have to be strong & not give your dreams up for anything, but mum was so serious about it.
Please help me out, I dont know what to do :'(

Thanks, and I promise that I will chose the best answer

tell her that:

-if she trusts you, she will let you go because you are smarter than the people in movies.
-thats a completely made up story. it may be 'possible', but you know what else is possible? you getting abducted in your hometown.
-you will be a resposible adult
-if she doesnt let you go, you will never forgive her for taking away your one chance at seeing a beautiful new country in your youth
-she is basing her idea of france, on a directors thought of something that is scary and dramatic, not neccessarily happening.
-you will get your french teacher to talk her into letting you go. then you will schedule an appointment with your principal until she lets you go.
-you would be responsible and always let your teachers and friends know where u r.

if she doesnt say u can go, just be mad at her for a long time, or give in. you cant stay upset at her forever, jsut show her that you are responsible enough.

HOPE I HELPED! AND GOOD LUCK!!!!

Look you've got 2 years to prove to your mum that you're a responsible, sensible person so he balls' in your court.
l've lived in France for 25 years and I don't think its' any more dangerous than any other European country, but having said that I would still be worried if my daughter was far-away in a foreign country.
There are bad people every-where and young girls on their own, often lacking a bit of experience of life in general can easily get into problems.
If you could travel with someone it would be better, letting your parents get to know the people you're going to stay with would be a good idea and learning french well is important.

Well, the plain truth is that there is almost no violent crime in Paris.

This movie is just that, a movie, and no more a rational basis for drawing conclusions concerning a trip to Paris than watching Mad Max is a rational basis for drawing conclusions concerning a trip to Australia.

I you come in France (I'm french it's why I say "come") when you're 16 maybe she will have forgotten that film or at least enough forgotten to let you go. You're suppose to come in 2 years, it's enough for you to show her that you're responsible and that you'll be carefull on all points. Anyway you will be in a student exchange, so you won't be totally alone. And it was just a film, nothing more. If we trust all films we do nothing. This kind of story can happened yes... all over the world... even in your country I think. But it only can happened, maybe it doesn't happened at all. Tomorrow your mother will maybe see a film taking place in Australia, about a girl of your age rapted in front of her school, and she won't let you go to school anymore ! Ask her about that !
And just let time make his job, your mother mind will be more quiet in 2 years, you will be older... and I'm sure everything will be OK and she will let you go.

Ummm...isn't that movie a work of fiction? No offence to your mum, but it's a little silly to over-react to something that came from someone's imagination. If your mum is like mine, pestering her about it will do no good. Just let the memory of the film fade. Keep saving money for the trip, and then in a few months or maybe a year you can bring up the subject. In the meantime, do your research...find out about crime rates, find out about the host families, find out more about the specific program in which you will be participating, find out everything you can. If she's still not sure, maybe the program director can have a chat with her...if none of that works, then plan to take a study abroad program when you're at university. There are programs that last a couple of weeks, a couple of months, or a whole year.

Good luck! When I was in high school, the foreign exchange students were always the most popular.
