The Eifel Tower - go up it at night the views are stunning

1. The Louvre...you have to at least see the Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, Winged Victory of Samothrace and Michelangelo's The Dying Slave. (P.S. Michelangelo's "David" is in Italy.)

2. Notre-Dame Cathedral...this is such a beautiful cathedral; stroll through the inside in awe as well as the outside.

3. Montmartre and Sacre-Coeur Basilica...this is one of my favorite areas of Paris. From the steps of Sacre-Coeur, you are rewarded with a magnificent panoramic view of Paris. The basilica is breathtaking, though photographs inside are not allowed. Montmartre is a charming neighborhood...there are great restaurants (try La Bonne Franquette) and inexpensive souvenir shops, plus the artists at Place du Tertre.

4. The Rodin Museum...not as crowded as the other museums, but just as fabulous. View the magnificent sculptures by Rodin (The Thinker and The Kiss) as well as his collection of art in his beautiful mansion.

5. Versailles...During the train ride to Versailles, you can read up on the history of the palace. Don't go on a Tuesday. Though most other museums are closed on Tuesdays (though the Rodin and Orsay museums and Napoleon's Invalides are open), Versailles is open...you'll pay for it though. You'll be herded through like cattle and won't see anything but the ceiling and the back of the head of the individual in front of you. Wednesday is much better. In any event, this palace is breathtaking and the gardens are magnificent.

Granted, the Eiffel Tower is not listed on here, but I'd rather have it in my photographs. If you do want to climb the Eiffel Tower, go early...the lines may seem insanely long, but they do move fairly quickly. Pictures don't turn out that well from the top. The second level offers the best photographic view.

Montmartre is my favourite. Sacre Coeur, the most beautiful church, wonderful views, Place de Tertre bustling with artists and tourists just round the corner. Wander down Rue Lepic, soak up the atmosphere of the best part of Paris!
Can I count that as one place!!?
Musee D'Orsay, Pere Lachaise cemetary, Musee Edith Piaf and Les Galleries Lafayette.
And we have not even got to the Seine!

1. Notre Dame
2. Palais Royal
3. Musee d'Orsay
4. Musee Rodin
5. Quartier Latin

The Louvre did not make my list for a couple of reaons. First of all, it is more than a little overwhelming. Secondly, I thought the Mona Lisa was a disappointment; there were many other pieces at the Louvre that were more interesting and beautiful (for instance, Winged Victory or any of the mosaics or even the frescoes on the ceilings). BTW, Michaelangelo's David is not in Paris -- it's at the Accademia in Florence, Italy.
