She was definately French. She lead forces against the English. She claimed to be inspired by God to do this.

This is a very important thing to get straight. The French and English were fierce enemies at this time and it looked like England was going to ultimately win. This is almost like being confused if George Washington was American or British. Joan of Arc did a lot of damage to the British and helped restore the French king to his throne.

Since Joan of Arc symbolizes the expulsion of the invading Britains from France, far right political idealogues use her to symbolize expelling immigrants from France in todays time.

Jeanne is in fact pronounced janne, despite the wit above.

I hope the teacher in question isn't a teacher of either French or history. I'd forgive, say, a physics teacher. But, to students of either, the nationality of Jeanne d'Arc is as fundamental a fact as those of George Washington or Winston Churchill.

They were all Australian.

um yeah she's French and if your teacher doesn't know that, get your parents to send you to another school

"Joan of Arc" is the english for "Jeanne d'Arc" .
She led a riot against english troops , who had invaded France in the 15th century !
She's now a saint but also a kind of a patriotic icon for some right wing people in France !

French "Jeanne d'Arc" is more correct. Can't believe your teacher wouldn't know that. Unless it's a math teacher...

French and It does not surprise me that the teacher does not know. They are only concerned with retirement pay and illegals.

it's easy to remember: Why did the Frenchman pee on his leg? John d'ark. Get it? Lame, but effective. (In French, Joan is pronounced [John].)
