The country? Great architecture. The people are rude and snobbish, the prices are high and the food is horrible. And this comes from someone who lived in Japan for 10 years and enjoys sushi. I tried the food while there (I'll try anything) and didn't care for it. If you like mash raw salmon or chcicken livers, and mushroom cream sauses you'll do fine.

As a French woman living in France, I find all the answers above very interesting and I wonder why we have this reputation of being rude and snobbish - perhaps most tourists come to Paris or big towns or in the south..
and as everyone knows, a big town doesn't reflect the real truth about a country !
Because I can assure you that in the small town where I live, people are very helpful, give time to others and have nothing to lose by being kind, on the contrary !

Generally nice, but complicated people with a rich history and a rich culture. A very beautiful language as well.

um, well the language is very nice, i dont' understand french but it sounds nice. LOL.

the french people are very thin!!! and i think they smoke WAY too much. when i visited france, i was simply amazed at how much everyone smokes.
and when i finally returned to USA, i was so glad to have FRESH air around me, instead of the smoke, lung cancery air.

Sorry to hear that some people find us French rude and snobbish!

Our country is too small to welcome all of you and therefore prefer the ones that find an interest in discovering what makes our culture interesting.

Nevertheless I admit that we sometimes can be hardheaded and not willing to change our century-old habbits. :-)

If you're talking about the language I guess it might be difficult to learn because it's do full of different rules and exceptions ... We French people are spending years in school to learn how to properly speak and write it! (Most of primary and junior high school).
If you're talking about French people I suggest you meet some or try and talk to them.
Most people are saying that French people are rude and snobbish, my guess is that they went in Paris. Parisians ARE like that ;) Not all French people are like that, that would be awful!

Oh by the way : Fries are not French, they are Belgian ;)

Rude, arrogant, hypocritical, lazy..... and always around when they need us (e.g. both world wars).

Arrogant because of the French president making jokes about British food (which is actually some of the best in the world).

Then they bad mouth perfectly good British beef (regarded the best tasting in the world, and more strictly controlled after the BSE fears)..... when it later turns out French farmers had been feeding their cattle on things like raw sewage.

On the opening of the Millau Bridge, the French President claimed it as a triumph of French Engineering & ingenuity (or words to that effect)......... completely forgetting it was in fact designed by an ENGLISHman.

Then of course there are the French Fishing trawlers, which are allowed to plunder British fishing grounds with impunity, while the British fishing fleet are restricted by EU quotas, and on it's knees

You should try meeting some french people or something. Never listen to what people say, u should go and try meeting them yourself. and in my opinion, the only reason the french might be snobbish is cuz the people give them a reason to besaying they're snobbish.

French is a nice language. The people are to snobby though, if they know your a foreigner, you'd better run for the hills!
