France is a pricey place. If you have money to spend , I recommend Cote d'Azur , Nice. It will be a beautiful place to visit very good food and wines.

Remember a can of Coca Cola cost about 6-7$ in France Paris. So stay away from Paris.

I've worked all around France, there are so many places, I would recommend Ile De Re on the South West coast, its a little island where the book Papillion was set. You can vists La Rochelle from there which is a very historic place and also St Jean DE Monts isnt far. Also Biarritz is gorgeous. Its a surfing town and very beautiful! If you can I would recommend hiring a car and driving down the west coast- sooo many beautiful places! Have fun!

oh man, france is amazing.
great wine is everywhere but the beaujolais is a very well known wine region! That area is known for reds! Amazing.

It all depends on what you are looking for, but as far as I am concerned, I would recommand you the Aquitaine region. Endless and sunny beaches, totally desert as they were at the begining of mankind, the largest forest of western Europe (le Parc Naturel des Landes de Gascogne), La Dordogne, la Gironde , les Landes, they all have a sweet climate, uncredible wines, the best food ever, not expensive at all and lovely people,kind and very friendly, to the extend you make yourself an effort to communicate...This is a little paradise.

Have a look around the Normandy/Domfront, Le Teilleul and St Hilaire du Harcouet areas and you won't be disappointed for fresh air, breathtaking walks and brilliant cuisine.

You can drive down via the Eurotunnel or SeaCat services if you live close to the South of England, or alternatively you might choose to fly to a local French airport, such as Dinard.

You can take the Eurostar train to Paris and a TGV to Strasbourg in the Alsace region.
Or eurostar to Paris and then a Train to Dijon in the Burgundy area, from here you can rent a bike or take a train to Beaune. You will find a lot of wine testing places and day hikes.

I've read all the other replies and no one has suggested going to Honfleur. Get a book on northern France and check it out. You've only got a weekend so you don't want to spend too much time driving to your destination. Honfleur is a beautiful little port, popular with artists, as it has been for hundreds of years, with yachts in the harbour and numerous cafes/bars round the edge. AND it's oly a short drive over the fabulous Pont de Normandie bridge from le Havre which is a ferry port from UK. Hotels are reasonably priced (except the pound has slumped against the euro). We stayed at one called "Otellin" (probably misspelled) but there will be an Ibis or a Campanile in the viscinity - very similar to Travelodge. And if you get time you could nip down the coast road to trendy Deauville, only a few miles away.

Dieppe is a really nice place to go, used to go there every weekend when living on south coast. Chartres is nice as is the Loire valley. Paris I'd give a miss, it's busy, dirty and the people aint that friendly!

Roscoff is nice just for a weekend if you are going by car.
My fav in Brittanny is Pont Aven but you need several days to get there and enjoy, then go on by road to Port Manech for sea and sand.
Further still is the area around Riec sur Belon - oyster growing area.
