What's a great hotel in Paris that's close to the metro?

My sister and I are visiting Paris in November (she's studying abroad right now in Spain and we're going to Paris while I'm there over Thanksgiving). We want a hotel very close to a metro stop, that's pretty nice (I stayed at a hostel once in Paris and it was horrible, I want something completely opposite of that experience). The maximum we're willing to spend a night is $500 or 342 euro.

If you stay in the centre of the city you'll have no problem finding a hotel that's close to the metro.

The next question is where? Like in any big city, some neighbourhoods are better than others. I would highly recommend St Germain or the Marais, both really charming areas in Paris, central, easy to reach the big attractions plus near restaurants, cafes etc. And safe for females on their own.

If you're looking for a really nice hotel experience, I'd recommend staying in a boutique-type hotel (rather than the big hotel chains).

Caron de Beaumarchais hotel, for example, has room rates for around 170EURO - very reasonable for Paris. I stayed there a few years ago - perfect for a girlie holiday.

I'd shop around though, so you can see what you can get for your money. Here are some more hotels you might like to check out:

PS when you ask for a room, make sure you get two single beds (rather than a double bed).

Best of luck and have fun on your trip.

Everything in Paris is close to the Métro. As long as you're in the city itself and not in the suburbs, access to public transportation will be easy.

As far as being well located generally, low-numbered arrondissements are usually better than high-numbered arrondissements.

Hostels are often a rude awakening to people who have never been to one and are just trying to save money.

Almost every address in Paris proper is close to a Metro.

I suggest you consider the Hotel Left Bank Saint Germain, a very nice little 3 star just half a block from the Odeon Metro stop with every convenience. You can get a twin bedded bouble for 280 euros or (look on the special offers page) two singles at 150 euros each.

Its in a fabulous area right off the Blvd. St. Germain and just a quick walk to the Place St. Michel and Notre Dame. Next door is the Cafe Procope, the oldest restaurant in Paris. The area is very lively and almost exactly in the center of Paris.

I have stayed at the Hotel L'Odeon in St Germain several times.

It is right by the Odeon Metro and within walking distance to many sights, restaurants, shops. The staff is very helpful and friendly and the room are very comfortable. The staff can arrange for a shuttle to meet you at the airport to bring you to the hotel. I loved it and would welcome the chance to stay there again. Check out the website. It looks just like it is shown.

I would recommend the Hôtel Chambiges Elysées in the 8th. It's within your price range, and smack in the center of the triangle formed by La Tour Eiffel, L'Arc de Triomphe, and Le Musée d'Orsay. =]

you will find plenty at that rate. note that metro stops are all over and you wont be far from one wherever you will stay, i may want to recommend to you to stay in a hotel in the following districts 8th or 16th next to the following metro stops: trocadero, kleber, victor hugo, charles de gaulle etoile, georges v, franklin d roosevelt, champs elysees clemenceau.
good hotel in that price range would be hotel baltimore, kleber palace, hotel powers, hotel san regis. if you book in advance or through a travel agent you might get a better rate.
try the hotel montaigne, perfectly located facing the plaza athenee and very anonymous and nice. maybe a bit more expensive than your target but do call and november is considered low season in paris. Post summer vacation and pre chrismas.
