You could try Googling Lourdes, and then you'd know it's a very famous pilgrimage site in the French Pyrenees.
Around 6 million people, most of them pilgrims, visit Lourdes every year.
Most visit the Sanctuaries, partcularly the Grotto where the Virgin Mary appeared to St Bernadette.
Suggest you work on the rest yourself. Some good websites are:

I don't know how much you know about Lourdes to start with but people go for religious reasons, not usually for tourism reasons. It's a place of pilgrimmage and a lot of sick people go in hope of being healed by the water. One downside of Lourdes is that it's become waay too commercialised. There are shops everywhere with religious items and a lot of them are completely tacky - glow in the dark statues and rosary beads, pictures of Jesus with flashing lights around them, it's quite inappropriate actually.
In Lourdes, people visit the basilica or the grotto or the baths etc. At night, there's a candlelit procession around the grounds which is lovely to watch. And there are services and prayers and stuff at various times of the day and night.
For the sick, there are a lot of services. There's a place for them to stay and if needed, carers can be provided. Then they can be taken down to the grounds of Lourdes for mass or to go to the baths or whatever. As far as I can remember, there's a part of the road laid out a bit like a cycle lane but it's for wheelchairs so that they can get where they want quickly without a problem with getting through all the crowds.
There's more information on these sites:

Good luck. |
