What activities (not sights) should we do in Paris? |
My boyfriend and I are going to Paris next week and actually want to participate in something rather than just go from site to site and take pictures. We did a Segway tour in Chicago a few months ago and that was fun... I know they have this in Paris too, but what else? Or maybe a cooking class or something? Any suggestions? |

walk from Hotel de ville to Eiffel tower, at night, on the right bank of the river (you'll see all the buildings of the historical left bank)
if it still happens, cycle on the river bank (they close it to motorised traffic at week end)
visit the catacombes (near Denfert Rochereau)
check out the "bouquinists" (book sellers) on the river bank near pont neuf
go to a concert in Bercy or la Villette
dress up and go to the Opera. |

If know how to skate then something really cool to do is to the join the Friday night skate thru the streets of Paris. Crowds of from several hundred to several thousand skate, along with a police escort to ensure everyone's safety on a route that changes every week. Read about it here: http://www.pari-roller.com/index.php?p=101
If you'll be in town on a Sunday night then go to dinner with Jim Haynes, an icon of the hippie era, writer, critic, and generally very hip person. He throws a dinner party every Sunday night which attracts locals and visitors, intellectuals and actors, tourists and rock stars, college professors and the slightly insane. Everyone kicks in money and there is good food and an open bar. Read more here: http://www.jim-haynes.com/index.htm
If you're there on a Thursday afternoon then check out the Club Metropole, an informal gathering of tourists and ex-pats that gets together at a cafe by the Louvre for talk and drinks. Read more here: http://www.metropoleparis.com/aclub.html
And next week you're in time for the Nuit Blanche event, a major celebration of contemporary art on Saturday 4 October. Read about it here: http://www.paris.fr/portail/viewPDFileServlet?file_id=40874 |

1) For cooking lessons, there is a good company :
http://www.atelierdeschefs.com/
You can pay for each lesson. But you have to understand french !
Look on the website, anyway you have to book in advance.
2) If you like cars, don"t miss the big car show :
http://www.mondial-automobile.com/
3) In Montmartre, there is a special WE about wine :

Cooking class is a good idea. Or wine tasting? Or if you're there on Friday night, they organize roller tours at night (pretty scary though: crowded and fast but they close the streets for it) or boating at the Bois de Boulogne? Or a unique restaurant like the one where you you eat in total darkness... |

I hope this doesn't come off as pig-ish, but I heard that France is the most sexually active country in the world. So, well, as they say, when in Rome... |
