What are French girls like? |
And no, I don't want any offensive or rude answers here...you'll get reported!
Are they materialistic and shallow, or deep and thoughtful?
What are their thoughts on politics, religion, society, class, culture, etc.?
Do they tend to be nice?
Are they tolerant or do they tend to be racist?
I hope I don't come off as excessively naive (but I bet I did lol!),
I'm an American who's an ethnic Bengali and I speak French, but I was wondering what the girls would be like if I went there ))
lol I am curious! )))
And a person told me that since they teach philosophy in French schools, French girls are more likely to be nonreligious than Americans...is that true?
I'm agnostic, and it's basically IMPOSSIBLE to find a girl here who is an open secularist...women tend to be quite religious here!
Okay, thanks in advance! |

It really depends on the person you come across. In my experience (not trying to offend anyone but this is what i've come across), me and my anglophone friends are 'scared' of French girls. In general, I find them highly intimidating and a bit aloof. I think cultural notions of 'friends' adds to this however. See more below. I've also found that French girls who speak another language or have lived abroad are typically more open and friendly. (just my experience folks!!!!)
I remember meeting a friend of my husband's after hearing about her for months. I gave her a big smile and said nice to meet her. I *coldly* got the bises and that was it. She made no effort more than that and I as a result was too scared to make an effort towards her. After that evening, I remember thinking, "oh what a b***h!" Little by little we saw each more and more through my husband and her boyfriend. Each time I tried to talk more to her and I saw that she reciprocrated. She is now one of my closest female French friends.
As in any country, I don't think their thoughts on politics, religion, society, class, or culture can be generalized.
There are rascists in every country, unfortunately.
France as a whole is not very religious; I'm sure philosophy might be a contributing factor, but not THE factor. |

hello!!I m french and Im a girl,so maybe I can help!!! I don t want to put myself as an exemple cause I don t think I am!!
You know it s like everywhere, you gotta meet people with different opinion, but we might be more nonreligious!(speaking for me and most people I know in france!)I would tend to say that we are easy going and open minded (but I still speak for me) >I m not sure my answer is really helpfull, but you know it s difficult not to make a cliche, like there is not one type of french girl!!!
We can be nice and funny, and from my friend from other country, maybe a bit crazy!!!!! |

The majority of French people are nominally Catholic but France has been relentlessly secular since the days of the Revolution. The French are, in practice, far less religious than Americans.
The French generally are more formal than Americans and the easy informality and willingness of Americans to form immediate friendships with strangers is not a part of French culture.
You say you speak French but are you truly fluent? The French have a greater appreciation of their language than Americans do of theirs. As a foreigner you will be given some leeway but not much. If you can't translate every word you've read so far in this answer without consulting a dictionary and without making a single grammatical mistake then you are NOT fluent. (By the way LOL in French is MDR) |

French girls are individuals, not a monolithic group, first of all. Sweeping generalizations, whether positive or negative, are not objective. "Are they materialistic and shallow, or deep and thoughtful?" Yes. Some are the former, while others are the latter. "What are their thoughts on politics, religion, society, class, culture, etc?" Again, it depends. Surely not everyone thinks alike wherever you live- there are undoubtedly divergent points of view, as well as different levels of commitment where religion is concerned. Well, in France it's very much the same. French girls, just any other demographic you care to name, have different religions (or lack thereof in some cases), different political loyalties (again, or lack thereof), different values, etc.
Concerning religion, there's one major difference between France and, say, the US- and this transcends girls- people in France tend to favor separation of church and state much more than they do here. References to one's religious faith in public discourse is frowned upon and taboo, as a general rule. |
