What are some ideas for souvenirs from Paris, France?

I'm going to Paris starting this weekend which will be the first time I've been anywhere overseas, so I wondering what are some ideas for souvenirs I could get for my brother in his 20s that he would like?

I was just there 2 weeks ago and brought back mostly food.

Does your brother like art? If so, you can get him some nice painted prints...not too expensive. For a small 5x7 I think I saw it for 1.50 euro. Large is 5 euro. If you're in a main tourist spot like Eiffel Tower, those hawkers sell Eiffel Tower keychains 3 for 1 euro...not that you should get that for him, but just putting it out there..lol. They will bug he heck out of you! Make sure that if you plan on bringing back art work, bring something protective to put it in. There are mugs, coasters, lighters, magnets, keychains you know the usual.

If your brother likes food, then you shouldn't have a hard time. You can bring back lots of good candies, most can be bought for reasonable prices at the airportpr at the Monoprix, Franprix or any grocery store. I brought back a lot of candies and uniquely french stuff like bonbons barnier, calissons, pate de fruits and chocolates. If he likes to cook, you can bring back some french sea salts, olive oils and herbes de provence. Maybe a nice bottle of wine or champagne. Oh, and I agree with the other answerer. Macarons...oh boy those are sooo good and rare here in the US. I got mine from Pierre Herme. I recommend the Salted Caramel flavor. If you intend on bringing food back, be sure to pack one of those rectangular shaped plastic containers in you luggage to protect your goodies. It was one of the best things I packed. On the way there I packed my toiletries in there. On the way back, I filled it with my candies.

Can't go wrong with a t-shirt. I saw some decent ones out there.

I hope that helped.

A Sorbonne t-shirt, a bottle of wine an eiffel tower beer opener, and a pretty painting of the Seine.

There's a bunch of different things in the souvenir stores. You can get hanging plates, a hat, a shirt, key chain etc. Have fun!

You can get anything from an Eiffel Tower paperweight to Cartier watches. I agree with Paris Traveler that bulk and price are two things to consider. I like buying or receiving something that I can wear or use and each time will make me think ... "hey, this is cool because it is something my sister actually brought back from Paris". So maybe a tie with a Paris scene printed on it, or coasters with Paris monuments on them, or a t-shirt with french art work on it?

Enjoy the trip!

Two issues are price and bulk. You have to pay whatever and then lug them home with you so think small.

Some suggestions are Paris Post Cards, collector shot glasses (he may want to start a collection from places all over the world--these shot glasses are sold everywhere and only cost $4 to $7 USD and are only a few euros in Paris too), a Paris calendar for 2010, the French paper Le Mond (of course its in French--but very trendy there just to carry and be seen with), there are collector coins sold at many monuments like at the exit of Notre Dame and Sacre Coeur (in machines for 1 euro) and small replica Eiffel Tower or Arc du Triumph paperweights that are very inexpensive and are sold in sidewalk shops in the tourist areas. Be sure to also treat yourself to some Paris scarves that you can find in the same shops for only a few euros each.

Hope that helps. Have a great trip and enjoy Paris. Bonne chance!!
