Vendors are great, there are some really cute boutiques near Champs Elysees There are great little boutiques but you will need to watch the money conversion. There is a great shopping area walking distance from the Sofitel hotel and they have great prices. I have a picture on my Facebook of the center, it is a mall and when you walk inside, it looks like you are still outside. It has cobblestone floors and great shops. I can send the pic, I think the name is in the pic but you have to look hard at the sign (sorry, was at a little distance) and there are great shops near the Louvre. Try to walk as much as you can in the city center.

Careful 1000$ is not much as Euro is much stronger than the US $...anyway the sales will start on the 7 of January....Good luck.

Check out the vendors on the side streets. YOu will find some great deals, and you can haggle. Also check out the giant flea market located in the northern part of the city.

Well if your going with $500 you'd be bringing around 300 euros, and shopping in France is not cheap, at all. Like at American Apparel in the States you can find a hoodie for $40, and get the same hoddie in France for 40 euros...
So I would REALLY check out the markets on the streets: they keep up with trends, and they're VERY cheap! I bought a leather jacket for 40 euros! It's authentic!

If you want to spend your 1000$ on a few but fashionable items, go to Le Bon Marché in the VI (it's means Cheap place, but it was... in the XIXth century !), and go the younger area on top of La Grande epicerie (top notch food court, by the way. Not cheap either).

Cheaper : rue de rennes (expensive towards St germain des Prés, cheaper towards Montparnasse), rue Saint-Placide, nearby.

Very, very expensive : avenue Montaigne ; rue du Faubourg saint Honoré (just to look).

Also the Marais area has small designers.
