It depends what you like.
Sport? From water skying, riding, swimming, sailing, mountain climbing, trekking... you have it all. Mountains, sleeping volcanos, rivers, seas, cliffs, forests, plains, heat, rain, it all depends where you want to go. The only thing we do not have in France is jungle and desert.
Fun: swing down to the south, either east or south, to the seaside and the nightlife in summer, where you dance all night, drink, eat and be merry. Sleeping optional.
History: so many things to see. From the neolitic caves of Lascaux to the castle of the sun king through all other kind of castles and periods, with the museums to go with it. For more modern history you have the killing fields of WWI and the Caen museum for WWII, and that without putting a foot in Paris
Fashion: that's Paris. The great couturier houses are waiting for you.
Price: all depends what you choose to do. |

France is HUGE. You really need to say whether you are going to a ski resort, a beach resort, Paris, Tours, Lyon etc. |

We used to take a car and go camping in Bretagne - usually good weather round about early July. Get up in the morning, fetch fresh bread and cheese, fresh peaches, good coffee.
Get in car and drive to find a beach like Port Manech, go swimming, sunbathing. Visit Riec sur Belon - call into Chez Melanie for a glass of wine.
Drive around little villages taking photographs, leisurely lunches of langoustines washed down with cheap village wine, play boules. Shop for fresh peaches and Artichokes, fish and meat to cook for evening meal.
Chat to other campers, play more boules, drink more wine. Fall over!
Camping is a good cheap way to have a great holiday in France. |

Well ,there is lots to do in France.
You can visit cities like Paris, Marseille, Lyon, Bordeaux, Toulouse which are wonderful.
You can ski, you can go to the beach, you can visit breathtaking natural sites like in Dordogne etc...
It's a very varied country and people are actually nice if you don't automatically assume that they speak English. Make a little effort to start in French and then most people will be helpful once they realise you're a foreigner. It's the effort that counts.
And dont worry, they actually do take showers, women shave, they use deodorants and are friendly. |
