Meat and vegetables, cooked French way, fries, a lot of salad. A full meal nearly always starts with a salad. Then you have meat (chicken, pork, veal, beef, mostly, lamb, duck or goose much less) or fish (much less usual) and veggies, green beans, potatoes, carrots, etc... You have then cheese and then desert. In the lite version you don't take cheese and eat a fruit as desert.
Things like frogs and snails are really luxury items, not something eaten every week.

It might surprise you to know that now the most eaten main course is steak with fries. Probably because it's so much faster and easier to make. Another popular menu in restaurants are the big salads, with green salad as a background to lots of other things, like cheese, tomato, ham, onions, some potatoes, to make a full meal.

That's the general idea. Then depending which area of France you are, you also have the local cooking, way too diverse to describe here. Here are a few few examples:

People in France eat food that is very fresh, they normally go to the markets to buy their food instead of the supermarkets. They eat food that is in season too e.g. strawberries might be in season in july, so they'll eat that in july. They eat like everyone else eats. No different, except that they might go to McDonalds a little less.

barbie girl
Lots of things like snails, frog legs, and bouillabaisse which is actually pretty good and some other stuff

France is known worldwide for food, so of course they eat things that others are not used to. They love wine, cheese and bread. Every region is famous for some kind of food. In Bretagne, they are famous for crepes and apple cider. In the Alps for fondue and raclette (so delicious!) and in the south they eat a lot of fish and vegetables. Everywhere you go you can taste something different. French people don't eat a lot of fast food and their food is not made with a lot of preservatives, so naturally it is much healthier.

haha...hey! **shyly**
They have the escargole (something like that!) it means snails (eww), and they million kinds of cheese. I'm gonna tell you something funny, when I was there, the hotel served only one CROISSANTE for each person along with jam. I'm not used to that at all in any other hotel! It was very strange for me, I think that's why french people are healthy...
