What do teachers in France wear? I am planning a French day and wonder what I should wear as a teacher?

The children are coming to school in casual dress and I wonder do teachers as well i.e. jeans or denim skirts?

I have taught in several French Lycées and on the whole teachers dress quite smartly in the sort of clothes that they would wear for semi-formal occasions like a lunch or a business meeting in other professions.
Students wear jeans or denim skirts for school, not teachers, and they can wear more or less anything they like as there is no uniform.
I wore straight skirts and a nice top, with a silk scarf if it was a V-neck sweater, court shoes or kitten heels, and jewelry (ear-rings/necklace) coordinated with my clothes, or occasionally I wore a trouser suit, and my colleagues also wore the sort of stuff you buy in Marks and Spencer or Next.
You get more respect from pupils if you are dressed with a bit of style than if you are scruffy, and they do not like seeing teachers wearing the same clothes as they do themselves.
Primary school teachers wear more casual clothing simply because it is more practical with that age group.

PS. It occured to me that, as an adult, for a "French day" you do not need necessarily to dress as a "teacher". You could dress as a famous historical character like Marie-Antoinette, a heroine out of a book like Madame Bovary, an author like Gorge Sand, or even improvise and make a traditional local costume out of cast-offs. The Alsace one for instance is particularly easy to copy but others like the Nice one would be just as good: long skirt, pinny, flowered shawl , fichu or flowered hat on your head, basket with artificial flowers... or mini-croissants for distribution to reward special efforts. Just a thought....!
