Do not wear big white sneakers, only wear them in the plane. French people tend to wear dark coloured shoes, natural colours like navy, brown, maybee a off white t shirt. Small accessories. Do not wear a back pack, hide your wallet not in your back pocket (for guys), if you want to keep your things safe. You can get away with pastel colours in the spring, just keep it soft and no big prints. Get a nice pair of sunglasses, in a brown colour. Handbag that you can wear across your body in brown leather tone (to match your sunglasses), so you are able to keep your hand on the bag (and keep your things safe) and be fashionable, again no big prints.

Have fun!

It's not what you WEAR that makes you look like a tourist -- it's how you behave.

My boss's wife went to Paris recently and here's what she learned:
Don't let anyone see you getting off a tour bus or stopping in the middle of the road to snap pictures of the Eiffel Tower or Arc d'Triomphe. When you go into the Louvre, don't stare at the Mona Lisa and comment "why is it so SMALL?" Don't ask for directions to "that tunnel where Princess Di died." Don't express disgust when you realize they sell horsemeat at the butcher shops.

First of all, they do not wear berets (or at least, not often). Most of the ppl who wear berets are war veterans attending Armistice Day ceremonies or air shows. French teens tend to not wear jogging shoes (unless they are jogging). French women wear very close fitting jeans and no socks with loafers. They tend not to wear sport coats and jeans (seems to be an American/Canadian thing). To avoid looking like a tourist, don't carry a back pack (most French and European students carry briefcases) and keep your map in your pocket (taking it out only when you need to use it). Some of the French kids wear sweatshirts with American sports team names but an illustration of the wrong sport (e.g. Chicago Bears with an illustration of a baseball player -- no idea why). In general, French women tend to wear clothes that fit well (no baggy clothes). You will get a better idea when you see the clothes in French stores. If you really want to see sharply dressed women, visit Geneva, Switzerland. They wear really sexy (but not slutty) clothes-- better than even the Parisians (who dress very well). If you want to see sharply dressed men, visit Milan (though men all over tend to dress the same-- ties, shirts, etc.).
