Nope, there's no actual dress code for public holidays in France, people wear whatever they like really :) I do remember that for the bicentennial of the French Revolution (Bastille Day 1989) a lot of kids in school wore costumes and stuff but that's pretty much it.

Ho ho ! Of course we do wear our national costumes in all the different regions in France on special occasions and they happen very often throughout the year!
