France is an amazingly beautiful country, almost no matter where you go. Of course there's Paris, but France is so mush more than just that. Each area of France is different, both in terms of geological features and people. I spent 5 months in Paris, then 9 months in northeast France. While there were some differences, there were also many similarities. The most striking differences were the traditions and the local and regional way of life. The common thread that I found was the people. I find the french to be very friendly and helpful! For example, my first full day in Paris I needed to get into the center from just outside the city using the metro. I was jet lagged and had no clue how to navigate the metro system. So I just went up to someone and asked for help and she walked me through everything! She even missed the train and took the next one just to help me! Of course, I asked for help in french. That's the one thing I've noticed. If you attempt to speak french (even if you completely screw up) the french are friendly, welcoming, and ready to help you. If, however, you speak to them using only English, chances are they will be rude to you. Even a mangled "bonjour" is considered trying. Most french people will be able to tell what your native language is within seconds of talking with you, it's amazing! Don't go to France thinking that you can get by with English "because everyone speaks it over there". You will be treated very rudely if you approach someone with that attitude! In general, the french have a bad reputation among Americans because of our lack of attempts to learn their culture and language. If you try, even a little bit, they will quickly become some of the most friendly and inviting people you've ever met!

I really like France and French people. The country has been pretty volatile and tense over recent years (ie riots in 2005) but that could be the same in many developed countries over the next few years. I find the country to be diverse, interesting and culturally stimulating as well as very beautiful.

And for the people, I really like them too. I lived and worked in provincial France for a year and found the people to be funny, generous, eccentric, opinionated, interesting and very welcoming. They are extrovert and invitational but have solid sets of values. Despite all of the rumours of aloofness, I also found their culture to be quite similar to mine (I'm British) and that they had an endearing streak of vulnerability which overrides any supposed self-importance.

In general, very decent people and a lovely country which is well worth viisting.

Lovely country and very nice people, I go there so often and have great friends over there, love the food as well and their wine.

I would marry all French people.

I didn't meet that many French people. But the ones that I did meet were either smily all the time, or really private. But once I got to know them, they turned out to be some of the nicest people I've ever known. I just love French people.

they have the best food! (admit english good food isn't that obvious to find)
then they may have a bit of a weird taste in music nowadays but thy have good older songs!
and their are politer... you say hello to all pedestrians (that is a smaller towns than paris)

My experience of french people is that I think they're very nice!

I go on holiday to the south of France a lot and they're always helpful, friendly and smiling. This year, I went to Paris for the first time, and even though I speak good french, I was worried because I'd heard that Parisians were miserable and rude (much like Londoners are supposed to be) but everyone I met was lovely! We had no problems at all!

Sometimes we English moan about french strikes, but I think that's great. At least people there care enough to strike - us Brits get rubbish dumped on us by the government and people just sit and accept it.

I'd love to live in France :)

I love the country, i don't go to Northern France but I go to the south every year. I've made quite a lot of french friends on holidays, i prefer them to british people a lot of the time plus they helped me pick up the language a bit which is great! They're nation as a whole is so much more relaxed - they have it right. =)

I'm 15 and went there with my friend and her family. We went to Paris, and I thought disbite what people say about them, they were pleasant. They weren't as polite as Americans, but they were fine :D

Here are stone cold facts. French people are OKAY, not good, not bad, Parisians should have another culture systematically enforced upon them.
Parisians think they are rich people - they are not.
Parisians think they are smart people - 9/10 are not.
Parisians act sophisticated - you guessed it, they aren't.
Parisians will correct your French EVERY chance they get, but they do not realize most of the world do not speak French like them, in fact a very small percentage of French speaking people do.
Parisians are pretty much the only Europeans with the exception of British that are not bilingual, in fact, as hard as it is to believe, most Americans are more bilingual than Parisians. Parisians also REALLY like to stare at people, I would say take it with a grain of salt, but when someone is staring you down, I don't know about you, but it makes me rather angry, and I start walking toward them (most of the time) and they usually look away. What are some more important things to know about Parisians... they have some good looking women, just like anywhere else... what else... when you go to Paris wear a helmet so your head doesn't explode from being surrounded and overwhelmed by sheer, utter, unequivocal, complete... there is no word for what I am trying to say... just wear a helmet.
