I've visited France many, many times. Its a very pleasant place to visit. Excellent food, great wine, a stunning amount of superb art, and a wide range of nightlife.

For such a famous and popular tourist destination its remarkably inexpensive (although you can spend a huge amount of money if you're not careful).

Best of all I really like the people in France. Yes, they can seem a bit grumpy at times and most Americans will find them far more formal than we are used to. But in the right circumstances and if you have the right attitude (and especially if you speak some French) they can be very pleasant people.

These days many Americans are annoyed at the political attitudes of the French but I've found they are informed and ready to intelligently discuss matters if you are willing to do the same.

I was in Paris recently and in a mixed group of American tourists and Parisians. I was having a very intense political argument with one of the Parisians. One of the Americans told me that I was "acting like an Ugly American." The Parisian said "Oh no, he is acting like a Frenchman...we love to argue about everything."

A Frenchman may have harsh words for George Bush but he is just as likely to have equally harsh words for Jacques Chirac. This is a nation of people who speak their minds.

France is one of world's great cultures and the French are America's oldest allies. Don't let a bunch of reactionary talk show hosts poison your attitude about France over a temporary political disagreement.

When I go to Paris I always make a pilgrimage to the grave of Lafayette to place a rose on his grave. I recall the words of General Pershing when the American Expeditionary Force landed in France during World War I..."Lafayette, we are here." He understood. So should you.

I like French it is a beautiful country. I particularly like southern French. There you find the nice Small communities, the friendly family type farmer and small wineries. The culture of French is great. The architecture is just beautiful and I admire their respect for their past. I do not speak French, but I have, despite that, enjoyed being in French. I am really impressed how innovative the French are. There are some thing I am not keen about regarding French, in particular their political views and playing both sides.

lousy in military capability. we had to save them many many times..

only thing i like about the french is their nuclear innovation; they can generate energy with nuclear waste

america needs to learn a few things from the french, and vice versa

Without France there may have not been a United States of America. Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity, the ideas on which our own revolution were built.
Today neither country quite lives up to its great expectations.
In America as in France the people say, "It is not you we dislike it is your politics."
So the people who travel agree.
Perhaps another revolution is needed before we have one nation, indivisable, with liberty and justice for all, a nation of liberty, equality and fraternity.
Then again, perhaps friends can disagree on some of the details if they agree on the basic ideas?

France is a beautiful country. It is the ultimate destination for fine food, wine, the latest fashions, and the Louvre, possibly the best museum in the world. The French are very independent. It was disappointing that they chose not to support us as allies, but that is their right. Frankly, I don't blame them. Why should anyone want to lose the precious lives of soldiers in a war based on a lie?

I'm French and obviously like France, because I love our way of life.
The school system is one of the best in Europe (except as far as learning foreign languages is concerned:german and Scandinavian are the best!), I like the food, and traditions we have.
I also like the fact that in one single country we have seas and mountains, and so many various things, I think it's what makes France very special.
I like French fashion and our taste for decoration and Arts.
We're very lucky to have a good system for jobs, health services and schools.Free schools are of the same level as paying schools (the only difference is the religious aspect most of the time), and if you're sick whether you're poor or rich does not make difference.

But there are also many things I dislike about France: first of all there is ALWAYS a strike going on somewhere at a local level or a national level, secondly French people are extremely grumpy and always have to complain about something.

I also hate so much the French administration, it's the messiest place in the world:you always have to send, keep and photocopy millions of evidences for everything.
If you want to get a parcel from the Post Office you need to show two official identity papers (identity card and driving license or passport, or birth certificate) and it's all the time like this.

The last thing I hate is the mentality some French people have about their own country thinking that it's the best place in the world and that all the other cultures are inferior. There's a latent racism in France that I can't stand just because of these narrow-minded views.

As a foreigner I like to be French because it's always seemed to me that it was an asset as a girl, for some reason...I think there is still an old fantasy about France, and I enjoy it sometimes...
People always have a cliché about France that I find cute and most of the time touching.

I love France. I studied French for five years in high and will be minoring in French in college. I visited France last May and absoultely adored it and would move to Arles (in the south) if I could. I definetely don't appreciate negative comments about the French because the people I met were very kind and warmhearted. Maybe everyone who has been to France has only been to Paris (the people there were nice too, just didn't have the same attitude as the people in the south).
I think people get a misconception of the people from only knwoing the big cities. If someone from France visited new york only what would they think of us? Why not visit Colorado or Missouri? See the working people in the smaller towns.

France is a lovely country, the people are very nice - if you speak French. My main problem with France was that people looked at you like you were crazy if you didn't speak French, whereas in the Netherlands, they were so understanding if you didn't speak Dutch.
