The Marais area of Paris is my favourite area (in the 3e). It's full of small streets packed with boutiques, bars, restaurants - very hip. Also in that area is the Musée Picasso, which is small enough not to get tiresome. To find the area, look for Place des Vosges, Rues des Archives, Rue des Francs Bourgeois...
You could do the tourist thing and visit Monmartre. Great views over the city.
The Champs Elysees is full of big name stores which may or may not be your thing. I think it's nicer to explore.
If you want loud and tacky (!) go to the latin quarter to eat in the evening. It's full of restaurants - greek, italian... with waiters standing outside begging you to come in! You can walk it from Notre Dame.
Nearby is a nice club to go to if you want an authentic French experience - Club Z in Rue des Anglais. You go down winding stairs to two 'caves'. It's small, friendly, intimate, non-ageist and you will definitely be asked to dance. When I say 'dance' expect to be twirled around salsa style.
Have fun, it's a great city. |

If you go in December, then you *must* go to the Jardin des Plantes, particularly to the Grande Serre (Great Greenhouse). It's virtually unknown, so very few people go there, but on a gray, rainy december day, it's an awesome place to see some green. There's an artificial waterfall, exotic birds and forgs and turtles... It's really like an indoor jungle. While you there, go to the museum of evolution. It opened maybe 10/12 years ago, and it's really nice too. If you go there, start at the top floor and work you way down
After that, cross the street and have a mint tea and pastry in the Great Mosque of Paris. There is an indoor patio with a fountain, a few tables. It's a trip to Morraco!
From there, you can also take a walk to the Lutetia amphitheater. Roman ruins in Paris! |

To be short, just go to the Metro station and there is a map of the Metro line, on the map, there would be diagrams of all the attraction you should go..You should also go to the "sex street" at Metro Blanche and have a look at Moulin Rouge. |

In December, I believe Notre Dame will look stunning. Stroll down Champs Elysees after dark to see why Paris is called the City of Lights. |

Arc de Triumpe(sp) you can go to the top of it too, its cool. Go to the Chapel de Notre Dame, must see this!!! take the metro too, its easy to use and very cheap to get around. You might see some famous people there too, i got to meet Nick Nolte while i was there too! Make sure you have a lot of money to take, cuz you will want to stop at a cafe or something and they will see you coming from a mile away, its expensive. i paid 13 dollars for a coke while i was there. |

If you go to Sacre Cuer, then down the hill, there's the artist's district called Montmarte. The paintings are AMAZING! But even cooler is the Salvador Dali Museum, which is literally JUST around the corner from Monmarte. It's only 6 euros to get in, and you can see an amazing amount from his collection, including his sculptures. I LOVED it! You HAVE to go to St. Chapelle, Notre Dame, and Sacre Ceur. Those churches are AMAZING.
If you'd like to do a half-day trip, go to Versailles and also to Vaux le Vitcomte. Both are amazing palaces...but at Vaux, they let you see much more of the actual castle. Versailles is totally roped off. On Saturdays, Vaux le Vitcomte has a farmer's market, where the locals sell their wines, cheeses, breads, jewelry, you name it. The cafe there serves amazing food and you can eat in their courtyard. It was the BEST thing I did while there. It's about a 35 min train ride outside the city, and then you have to take a cab to it, but trust me, they'll know why you're in the tiny city of Melun. |

If you get there you must visit the old center of the city, where you can see the Notre-Dame Cathedral,Sacre-Coeur, La Tour Eiffel, Louvre Museum, Assemblee Nationale, Arc de Triomphe and Champs Elysées and not forget about Disneyland Paris. Also is said about Paris to be the most romantic city in the world and with no doubt one the most beautiful. The romantic atmosphere is by night, when the city is bathing in lights. But visiting the old monuments is recommended on daylight. If your going to spend some time.......
