What is it that both French & English don't really like about eachother?

I know it's partly because of past wars, but what to the personally/culturally not like about eachother?

English food and french rock are both horrible.

It used to be but nowdays it's not a real hate, much more like a little competition between French & English... mainly because they are dramatically different... French have killed their King, love french food and are sure to have the best wine in the world... English love their Queen, love their food and are sure to have the best tea in the world... it's more a problem of supremacy...

So each year, there is a rugby match between the two countries... each time it starts with nasty jokes, followed by some punches but after the final whistle, everybody go to the pub and have a beer...
French will say you that English are their nicest ennemies... or their uggliest friends... sur they fight together, but they love it ;))

yeah I discovered that we were supposed not to like each other when I started internet, I had never heard of that before. It's just an urban legend that is regularly kept alive by some stupid who, each time they see the word "French", it could be French bread or whatever, talk about wars that happened 500 years ago, about the French running and surrender...this behaviour is very interesting to study socially. It's really something that some people think of us the French that I would never have suspected...I must say that the English seem to be really more interested in us than the contrary, as we rarely talk about England and the English here actually, but they always have something to say about us, it's like an obsession that I don't understand.

Who decided they don't like each other, I am English I have French friends and have had some fantastic times holidaying and living in France.

Your assumption is a sweeping generalisation that simply is not true.

That's all BS.
I am French, I worked with English, Scottish, Welsh, Irish.... with no issues.

It more like people slagging at each other, no hatred involve here.

There are many UK people buying houses in France, many French living in UK.

They have been rivals since the middle ages and Charlemagne. They both competed for colonies throughout the world and they have had many wars with each other. they are just long time rivals. The English think that the French are stuck up and the English think that the French are stuck up.

I think that hating each other is for the French and for the English a kind of game. Plus I've noticed that many French have the impression that the English regard themselves as superiors to the others nations and that many English have the impression that the French regard themselves as superiors to the others nations... so each one blames the other for the same thing.

i.LovE.HoMeWorK...!!!
You are right, their dislike of eachother is rooted on the fact that they have engaged in many wars in the past. From my understanding, they also do not like the languages. The English do not like it when the French refuse to speak English, and vice versa. In reality, they are simply very different, and those differences cannot be resolved. From an outsiders point of view, I see no problem with either. They are simply in competition with eachother.

I hope that answers your question!!
