What is the best place to eat Escargots and Frogs in central Paris? |
Well, since I do not get to go to Paris that often, I suppose it is the time for me to try the famous dishes. It would be great if you can suggest a yummy & clean place with a reasonable price. Also, does anyone have any idea how the frogs are prepared??.. |

I am French and I never have eaten escargots or frogs legs. 99% French people don't eat frogs or escargots.
They are protected animals so it is illegal to eat French frogs. We build even small tunnels under motorways for frogs can travel and not be killed by cars! Frogs legs are imported from Asia.
Escargots are from Bourgogne but it is not the season, they are in hibernation now. If you eat escargots it will be frozen food.
Good restaurants serve food of the season so if you find them in a restaurant in winter they are not good restaurants. |

Xabier is right. We only eat frog legs ("cuisses de grenouille"). The first and only time I ate frog legs was...in Thailand. Actually it really tastes like chicken ! How are they prepared ? Well, it looked like they were just cooked with seasoning... As for snails, I think the sauce makes all the difference. It's mainly parsley, butter, shallot, and garlic of course ! :) The only thing is that I had to stop reminding myself that I was eating a snail. Personally I think it's tastier than frog legs but then again, I believe that the sauce makes all the difference/
To answer your question, I don't know, I'm sorry :( But you can always look for "restaurant bourguignon" for snails ( http://www.fra.cityvox.fr/restaurants_paris/LieuxTrouves?GLI=BRG ). But any french restaurant should serve these. |

At the Gare de Lyon... I've never eaten Frogs but I've heard thats the place to go in Paris for Snails... I wouldn't think it would be cheap though.
I think it's just the legs and they are prepared in the same was as Snails... with lot's of Garlic |

I have never seen frogs' legs on a menu in Paris, but I am sure it is possible, somewhere. It is the sort of dish that you find more outside Paris. I am French and I've only had frogs' legs once in my life, a long time ago, and I think it was in Brittany. As for snails, they are more common, but you won't find them in places that do a more modern sort of cuisine. As snails are traditional from Burgundy, I would recommend Ma Bourgogne, a beautiful restaurant (19, place des Vosges), beautifully situated in the heart of the Marais area. It is very traditional. |
