My favorite time of year in France is in September, cooler but still nice enough. Everyone is back from their vacation and the kids are back in school. A light jacket is about all you need though. My other favorite time of year is at Christmas, especially if you are going to be in Paris. The weather is colder of course, may even have a bit of snowfall, winter coat is a must, but not necessary to have heavy winter boots. Paris is really beautifully decorated around the Christmas season. The shop windows at Gallerie LaFayette are very impressive, and the Eiffel tower is also very nice at Christmas time in the evenings when it is all lit up. In the South of France, I would say best time is in August. In the Alps, anytime at all. If you are into ski resorts than the winter months of course, but the mountains there are beautiful all the time. Hope you get to go. France is a very beautiful country.

The weather is nice in May but there are a lot of national holidays so things are closed on those days. June and July are warmer but more crowded. Don't go in August...the French like to vacation then and many things will be closed. September and early October are my favorites. Paris is beautifully decorated for the holidays but the weather can be cold. More rain than snow.

Hi from France !

The weather is good from May to October ( mainly in the south), but if you want to ski, then it's from December to March.
From July to August, there are too many people, make your choice according to your activities too...

Have a nice sunday and safe journey...

Catherine.

alan
any time but July and August
