What is the best way to get cheap airfare to Paris in the first week of July form LAX?
Air Tahiti Nui has some pretty great air/hotel specials from time to time. Check the Sunday LA Times travel section where all the travel ads are.
July is tough though. You probably know that is the high season. I have found that the earlier you buy, the cheaper the fare is.

All true! Definitely keep an eye on Air Tahiti Nui. They have a Tahiti-Los Angeles-Paris route with fares that are usually hard to beat. They also sell out quickly as you might expect.
Swiss also has great fares (or used to). They've gone through lots of changes including being bought out by Lufthansa, I think. So it's hard to say, but check them out too. Lufthansa and United are code-share (business link) so they'll probably offer similar fares. American Airlines has been giving the most consistent "cheaper" deals in the past year. Good luck with your search. I'm going back to Paris right around the same time as you, so I'm watching fares also. You may want to reconsider your dates - the first week of July is a travel peak, it being a 4th of July weekend and thereabouts.
The prices are much higher and seats limited, not to mention hightened security and crowds.
