Short answer is trains - it's overall the fastest, cheapest and most efficient way between cities. Check out the articles on "Transportation in France" & "Train Travel in France" (which I wrote! :)) at the below link. There are tips on how to save money using the trains, etc.

If you have time restraints the take the great train system, otherwise driving is easy and you can stop for adventures along the way.

One good alternative to train travel is the Busabout service which is a jump on/jump off bus that makes a circuit thru France and Spain. check it out here: http://www.busabout.com/Western

France has an incredible railroad network with very fast trains!

Hi there... you can get around very easly by train..
They used to have a ticket called Interrail which allowed you to trvel all over europe it was pricey but good.
You can hire a car.... its not expensive but pertol/gas is.....
