What is the cheapest way to travel in Northern France? |
I'm planning on going to Rennes soon and will probably fly to Paris-Beauvais airport (BVA). The journeys from BVA to Paris and then Paris to Rennes will cost more than my flights if I were to take the shuttle bus then the train (TGV seems to be the only option).
Does anyone know a cheaper way to travel? I wouldn't mind if it was slower.
Thanks in advance

Take a backpack and walk. It's slower (which you said you don't mind) and cheaper. |

I have been to France many times. The cheapest way to travel is to take the trains and metro. They are extremly easy to use no matter what language you speak. If you REALLY want to save some money you could look up hostels in the area that you are going. They are much cheaper than hotels. I stayed in a hostel in austria and it was actually pretty nice. |

If you do not mind using the bus network, they charge €3 for journeys over 25km within their individual departments. It would be slow, but you could get to Rennes for around €18 |

I think realistically you need to be going by train you can check out the rail options on my website which I have given you below with a direct link to the train travel section.
Taking the bus is probably only possible if you speak French |

Depending on the distance you have to travel, you could take a bike. its a very good way to take-in the sights. there are many bike rental shops in France and Europe in general. also, most trains and buses there have bike storage on-board. other than that im not sure. |

I lived in France for awhile, and it depends. There is some more information that is needed to best answer this question. Do you have to fly in to the Paris-Beauvais airport, or can you fly in to Paris-Charles De Gaulle airport? What are the current prices you are looking at paying for the trip? and When are you going? Sometimes just changing the airport that you are flying into to can make a big difference in cost. Also, there are several different kinds of trains (some slower and some faster) and this can change the cost. I would suggest one of two things, either edit your question and provide a little more detail, so that the question can be better answered or you can try checking some other train options by visiting this website: www.voyages-sncf.com and then go to the bottom left of the page and click the United Kingdom flag so that the page will be in English. |

You can go to different bus companies and choose a different discount dependig on how much time before you can reserve your trip or how many places you want to visit, my advise is go to the bus station |

Get a big backpack and rent a motorcycle. What a wonderful way to travel. if you really want to be cheap, hitchhike, it's much safer in other countries than in the U.S.A. |
