There are so many beautiful places in France, but I personally have to say that I've fallen in love with Provence. The callanques of Marseilles and Cassis are mesmerizing. And I would say that the Alpilles region near by Arles is a must for any visitor to the south of France. Not only can Provence boast its natural beauty, but it is also filled with history and culture. For example, Marseilles was the first major city of France (founded by Greeks).
There is so much history and so many interesting traditions in Provence. Not to mention I find the people welcoming and helpful. It's not like Paris where they stare right through you and quicken their pace when you try to ask for directions (or at least when I try to ask for directions).

le plus beau, c'est le sud de la france. mer, soleil, et paysage magnifiques.Les plus beau départements sont le Var(83) Les Bouches du Rhones(13) et Alpes-Maritimes(06) de préférences en été.
En hiver, il y a la Haute-Savoie(74), montagne et neige garanti.
Par contre, evite la Franche-Conté, Normandie et Bretagne car ce sont des régions relativement triste(sad) et il serai dommage que tu perde ton temps dans ces régions pour des vacances.

I loved the small village town of St. Victor la Coste, where I worked at LaSabranenque, a midievil restoration project not far from Avignon in Southern, France, http://www.sabranenque.com/volunteer. They are always looking for additional volunteers, you can hike or visit in the afternoons, the staff is friendly, and the food and bordeaux wine is stupendous!

I also enjoyed the small towns in the Beajolais region (though not my ideal wine region) where, like many other parts of France, picnics with baguettes, cafe coffee sipping, and bicycle riding through all the hills and valleys as the people engage in friendly conversation with neighbors and old friends.

From my own experience going around the west coast of France, the Normandie region offers a lot in terms of scenic spots and beaches as well as historical and cultural places (Mont Saint Michel, Rouen, Caen, Bayeux, Giverny. Soutwest France and Britanny can boast of beaches and parks. I love the museums in these area.

I have only been to Nice in Cote d'Azur so can't say much about the region except the beauty of the beaches.

I haven't been to the Pyreneés and Franche-Compte region.

In terms of cultural and historical places, I think Paris and the suburbs still offer the best places to see.

Provence and Riviera are my favorite parts of France, though I'm not native of it. You have a nice seashore, mountains, hills, and a nice climate.

I also like the area of Biarritz (Southwest) because it's very green and houses are magnificent (architecture).

It all is beautiful in its own way. I loved the Pyrennes, stayed there a week with friends. Careful, the people away from Paris wouldn't talk to me and I went 5 places before I found a French person that didn't walk away when I wanted to change my US dollars.

Normandie - especially Deauville, Trouville (good for Calvados - alcholic apple drink) and Mont Saint Michel...The last in this trio is really breathtaking and magical...an old abbey and pilgrimage site looms over a small village with winding pathways all the way to the top...from there you can see the tide coming in which is quite spectacular as it transforms Mont Saint Michel into a temporary island...It is the second largest tide after the Bay of Fundy....If you go in summer, the abbey has a really magical light and sound show at night...that place will take your breath away - trust me....

Look no further....THE BORDEAUX VALLEY!!
